During testimony before members of Congress on Thursday, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) asked Attorney General Eric Holder whether his department’s expansive monitoring of the communications records of journalists extended to members of the Congress. Holder refused to answer the question in a public setting, prompting Kirk to scold him for not simply responding “no.”

Kirk began by referencing the developing scandal surrounding the revelation that the National Security Agency has been requesting the phone records of all of Verizon’s customers.

“You know, when government bureaucrats are sloppy they’re usually really sloppy,” Krik said. “Want to just ask, could you assure to us that no phones inside the Capitol were monitored of members of Congress that would give a future executive branch, if they started pulling this kind of thing up, would give them unique leverage over the legislature?”

“With all due respect, Senator, I don’t think this is an appropriate setting for me to discuss that issue,” Holder replied. “I’d be more than glad to come back in an appropriate setting to discuss the issues that you have raised, but in this open forum..”

Kirk interrupted Holder. “The correct answer would be, ‘No, we stayed within our lane and I’m assuring you we did not spy on members of Congress,” he said.

Okay, bear with me here. Holder is either has the biggest pair of balls in the US...OR he is the dumbest man in DC.

Face it, with his testimony about not being involved in going after journalists on May 15 and now we know he personally signed off on 3 different appeals to go after Rosen, even naming him a "co-conspirator" we can now safely say that he is just not that bright.

This is going to get really ugly before it gets any better.

I just want my Liberal friends to know that they are not to blame. No one on the Right supported Nixon's actions. Nixon found out from the Republicans in Congress that he needed to leave. I have been very happy to see that those on the Left are by and large open minded enough to admit that this stuff is just not right. Long hot summer ahead. The press wont have much else to talk about. bad news for the WH.

i am not saying that Obama is leaving. But, he is going to go from "lame duck" to "thoroughly disabled duck" as this drags on.

It don't think holder was under oath today, so he could get away with a non answer. He could de delaying an answer because:

1. He's not sure and did want say no and then later be caught in a lie.

2. They're doing monitoring for national security, he, ll explain in private..

I

3. He's adopted the IRS additude. Or they adopted his.

or it is classified information that the Congress doesn't have public-hearing access to obtain.

He's just following orders....

And / Or

He's as a committed a radical as they come, and feels no need to play by the rules.

I hope someone is keeping their eye on those rascals in Congress. ;)

Tex, after following this story, i think it is obvious that the pattern would be:

"Keeping an eye on the good guys, and abetting the rascals in Congress..."
