Both he and his teammate are projects and need some S&C but evidently they showed us something. We need DE's but how many will we take? I wonder if Sawyer and the other Williams have given the coaches reason to begin looking elsewhere?

I answered your first question in the other thread you posted it in. No need to ask it again. Also remember not every offer is a commitable offer. Of all the offers recruits claim from bigger schools on about 40% are committable offers.

So, how many DE's are we going to sign? :poke:

How does a non-commitable offer work from the aspect of the athlete? What are coaches saying - "you can come if certain other athletes don't"?

Pretty much, I'm sure they word it differently. Good question though, I would like to hear one of the coaches explain that whole situation.

One more question and a statement and then I'll leave it alone. How often are these non- commitable offers really made? One one hand I would advise an athlete not to burn any bridges and its just business. On the other hand in my heart I would be pissed. Don't call me if you don't really want me. Who wants to be a fall back?

I think some understand but I think a number of them don't realize ie it. Since I am not a recruit I am not sure what the coaches say. It's not necessarily about other recruits though. Some offers may be contingent on a camp performance or senior season.

With about 40% being committable the Math says about 60% are not.

Along with the other contingencies mentioned, camps and workouts, most recruits are required to check with the staff "at the time" they want to commit to make sure the opening still exists. Of course this requirement usually doesn't exist for the super stars. With the passage of time, most recruits understand why that has to be the case.

It is definitely not an ideal situation for the player or recruit that is on the bubble. Like everything else in life though, it is important that they educate themselves and not rely solely on those who are always going to tell you what you want to hear. Sure it hurts to hear the truth but if your buddies saw your girlfriend out with someone else you would rather find out before the wedding than after, no?

Sounds like a verbal commit with the option to decommit :)

E, would we really take a commitment from him this early with Sawyer and Andrew Williams still on the board?

Not sure. He impressed the staff at the June camp. It depends how much he impressed him. If they take a commitment from him that means the staff feels he is one of the top 3 DEs on the staff's board since the staff plans on taking 3, maybe 4 DEs in this class.

We are losing 3 DEs at the end of the season. The kid is 6'7" and only 220 lbs. but Russell can do a lot with that frame in a year. As a comparison, Clowney is 6'6"/274 lbs. now but was 245 as an incoming Freshman. So there is a lot of room for growth with Kennion as well as with Thorton at 6'6" and also only 220 lbs. Both of them will start their careers after a RS year at a minimum of 250.

I think we'd be foolish not to take him if he's ready to commit. With his elite frame, and having supposedly impressed Garner a LOT, why wouldn't we? I think some don't want us to just because there aren't 4* by his name. I know nothing about him, but i know that if Garner wants him badly, that's endorsement enough for me.
