In terms of his yards per carry, ratio for 10-yd runs or more, ratio in runs of 20-yards or more and ratio of runs resulting in first downs or TD's, Tre Mason was the 3rd best RB in the SEC during 2012. Not bad for a sophomore playing behind an inconsistent OL, little QB support and in a very conservative offense. I expect Tre to have a banner season in 2013 should he remain healthy.

I look for Tre to play a similar role to Dyer in 2010.

2010 RBs: Fannin (power), Dyer (balanced), McCalebb (speed)

2013 RBs: CAP (power), Tre (balanced), Corey Grant (speed)

I do think that CAP will play a larger role than Fannin (sp?), but the make-up of the backfield seems to be shaping up to be very similar.

Where does he rank in those stats compared to returning players this season?

No. 3 behind Gurley and Yeldon.

Very impressive....he is in good company.

How is Tre out of the backfield (ie catching the ball?). I tried not to watch games last year.

Lashlee said he has great hands. He and CAP should be solid in the passing game as receivers.

Last season Mason was targeted 11 times and he caught 7 passes. Would love to see him catch 20+ in 2013.

The "power" guy was probably faster than Dyer.

Yeah, a lot of times he ran so fast the football couldn't keep up. He would ust leave it behind, on the ground... :rimshot:

And then fumble. Man I wanted Fannin to be the guy. He had so much to offer but couldnt put it together.

I got nervous every time he touched the ball

mason > dyer

he is the perfect fit for this system. i expect a breakout year of near 1400 yards for mason. we will have 2 different 1000 yard rushers and the mcCaleb role, filled by quan bray, will approach 100, say 800 yards.

Kind of reminds me of someone else?

Unfortunately, I think he did too. He could have been really special.

Statistically speaking yes Tre is better. He had the same if not slightly better stats in most areas than Dyer from the 2010 season. And he did not do it versus 2nd and 3rd string Ds as a number of Auburn fans wrongly assume. Tre game out of the gate strong. His best quarter was the 1st quarter where he averaged 7.0 yards per carry. Also Tre put up his stats with an OL that was nowhere near as developed as the 2010 OL.

I'm a big fan of TRE as well. He is going to turn some heads this year.

I was a bit surprised he didn't turn more heads last year, but given what there was on the field... :gofig:
