Newbomb 194
http://sports.yahoo....-030201835.html Well if Harvey didn't do it what if a South Carolina fan did it? If Harvey had too much Bama in him did someone have to much Game C*** in them....
quietfan 233
Just sad that people do things like this. In this case, yes the obvious suspects would be nutcase rivals. But it's also possible there's a nutcase Clemson fan who just wanted a piece as a souvenir for his "man cave". In any case, unless there were fingerprints, I suspect it will go unsolved unless/until the perp brags too much to his friends and acquaintances. (...or calls the Finebaum Show!) douggwilliams 61
Harvey could not have pulled that one off, way too dumb. Removing plexiglass? I think you have to be sober to do that.
cptau 169
Stupid mean people are everywhere. So the only connection this rock has with the school is that the rock is from Death Valley California and they call their stadium death valley?

HDFatboyTN 3
I hope they catch whoever did it and prosecute them to the full extent of the law (like what should have happened to Updyke). I have nothing to do with Clemson and don't even know any Clemson fans. That being said, I hope all Auburn fans can understand what it is like to have a tradition damaged (in our case destroyed) and show some sympathy towards Clemson as they now know to a small degree what we feel like. lionheartkc 6,150
Honestly, I would bet money that it was a group of drunk graduates who wanted to take a souvenir of their time at school. It doesn't look malicious at all. If it was malicious I would think there would be more damage, or a message scrawled or something. Let's face it, Harvey didn't cut a branch off the oaks... he killed them. If someone was trying to ruin the rock, they would have taken a sledge hammer to it, not knocked a piece off and then put the cover back on. quietfan 233
Stupid mean people are everywhere. So the only connection this rock has with the school is that the rock is from Death Valley California and they call their stadium death valley? Yes, as I understand it, it's a rock from Death Valley, California, given to their past coach Howard by a Clemson alum. But it's not the source of a venerated object that makes it special, it's the tradition that grows up around it. The Toomers Oaks were born no different than any other oak on campus or in the state. It was the Toomer's Corner tradition of celebration that made them special. Our live eagles were no more special than any other eagle before they were adopted by AU. I'd never heard of "Howard's Rock" before this, but apparently it has a long tradition on their campus. A pebble from a creek bed in Mississippi could be worthy of equal protection and respect if adopted and venerated by their fans over a long period of symbolic tradition. The bell we now know as the "Liberty Bell" would be no more special than any other bell produced by that foundry, and perhaps just be hanging anonymously in some church steeple or already melted down and repurposed, if not for the respect and symbolic tradition it earned from its association with the Continental Congress and the Founding Fathers, and the reverence we have attached to it since then. Or look at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem: To non-Jews, it's just an interesting archeological artifact, but to the Jewish faith it is a symbol of great religious significance and reverence. But that's true of all symbols: Symbols only have meaning because we attach meaning to them.
bigbird 60,968
If it was meant to hurt, they would've removed or destroyed the whole rock. As is, I think someone just wanted a souvenir
WarEagle10 77
If it was meant to hurt, they would've removed or destroyed the whole rock. As is, I think someone just wanted a souvenir I agree. I definitely think it was a Clemson fan, probably a student, who wanted something special from Clemson. I think a rival fan would have stolen it or busted it to pieces. It's still sad nonetheless. That rock doesn't mean a thing to me, but it is very special to that fanbase. Lot's of wacko's in all shapes and sizes out there.
autigeremt 7,260
Carolina fans have chipped it before, but not this much. It's hard to say who did it until the have some evidence.
