Good day to be an Auburn Tiger!

Recommended Posts

Of course, it's always a good day to be an Auburn Tiger, but today has been an especially great day. I know I posted this in the football forum, but the additions of Coach Myers and Coach Golloway, with their championship results, should set the bar high expectation-wise for all athletics, including football! I am looking forward to the competitiveness and progress our athletics teams make over the next year. Games still have to be played of course, but today should signify that things are looking up! Great day! War Eagle!

I guess JJ has finally started to figure out that the writing on the wall has the words fired, different direction, dismissed, and poor leadership pointing to him and no one else. I think JJ started righting the ship with the hire of CGM, and now is on a hot-streak and gaining steam along the way. JJ could become a very good AD if he keeps on making great hires and other good things he has accomplished.

Like I said in another thread...I greatly applaud the hires JJ made today. Two absolutely fantastic hires. Now what JJ needs to do is get behind these programs and support them fully. I truly believe that is as important, if not more important, than these hires. It is mind boggling to me that Hoover High School has an indoor batting facility and a big bad SEC school doesn't. We need a decent sized one so the ladies can get some hacks in there also. Small things like this is what makes for better programs. We have the big things in place, now we just need more of the small things.

Hopefully Jay Jacobs only has one more big hire to make after basketball season next year. Very impressed with today's events!

Call me crazy but I hope that Barbee pulls it together if not then I will agree with you...but I don't know who we would get for that one...

With the news of JJ’s new hires, this is why with the fight song at full volume I’m having steak and eggs for breakfast (and maybe an adult beverage) ;

· New Women’s BB Coach – Strong hire

· New Baseball coach – great hire

· New softball coach – outstanding hire

· New football coach – innovative hire

What does all this mean? Auburn can compete with anybody!

I think I will wait to see the products on the field before I put a grade on these coaches. They seem to be headed in the right direction. Having seen this stuff before," This OC, DC, HC or this player will be unstoppable " I'll wait to mid season before ranking any of them.

I'm going to give an attaboy to the AD. I think JJ got the message, decided he better get with it, got rid of the sub par coaches and has replaced them with 3 great hires in a row. Now Barbee knows he will be next if he doesn't pick up the pace significantly.

I think it's pretty clear Barbee will be next. The basketball program has gone from comically to tragically bad since he's been here and it doesn't show signs of getting any better. Hope we have the guts to hire Pearl for that job.

It's hard to turn around a mediocre program where coaches win just enough games to keep their jobs .....where the tendency is to just muddle along hoping the light will come on and the coach(es) will grow enough to improve their programs. We waited out several of those situations over the past few years and I guess that sometimes things have to go totally in the toilet in order to have the motivation and support for a house-cleaning. IMO that started a few years ago with women's basketball and some of the minor sports and has gone forward from one sport to the next. Men's basketball is the last sport that seems to require some serious attention. Everyone knows that.... including the coaching staff.

Lets see: We refused to even talk to a highly recommended bum for the football job, we refused to even talk to a highly recommended bum for the baseball job. Here's hoping the trend continues and we avoid talking to Pearl for the basketball job.

Oh yeah---AU doesn't want someone who can actually COACH basketball and put fans in the seats like he did at Tennessee. Hell no, we don't want someone who can recruit quality players who might actually stick around for 3-4 years. No, AU doesn't want that at all. I'm sure there'll be some unproven "flavor of the month" or "up-and-coming" superstar-to-be assistant coach out there that AU can take a chance on---but a proven winner who had a skirmish with the NCAA and has learned from his mistakes---NAH, AU doesn't want that.

Surely you know who the football bum was. If you missed it in the baseball thread, the former Arizona guy who got his team on probation and was "going to save our program if we'd only have enough guts to hire him".

I think the recent softball and baseball hires demonstrate that AU can hire successful coaches without having to scrape the bottom of the integrity barrel.

A "skirmish"...you must be kidding. A skirmish is some secondary violations that gets a few coaches put under house arrest for six months. Pearl's was far more than a skirmish considering that he was personally penalized for three years....the most severe personal penalty by the NCAA that I can recall. And "learned from his mistakes" ? By my observation, what most sleazy characters learn from getting caught is how to be more careful in the future when they do the same stuff that got them in trouble the first time. BP is right where he needs to be...at ESPN. And if you empathize for him, don't worry....some college version of the Oakland Raiders will step up, say they believe in "second chances" and hire him.....and then be amazed when he commits some violation that gets them in trouble. We don't need to be that stupid.

Hey...it's the cover-up that always gets people in trouble. BP knowingly committed some relatively non-serious stuff and then lied and talked other people into lying about it too. http://sports.espn.g...tory?id=5714649 Interested parties can read the details but with JMO, this does not sound like a first time offense that he just stumbled into. I see his probation ends in a couple months....and I bet schools are standing in line to get his name on a contract for next season... :-\

AU64 and I have had our differing opinions in the past but we seem to be on the same page with this one. Let somebody else pick up the garbage, Auburn can do better.

Pearl's "sin" was lying to the NCAA.

*gasp* /scarcasm

He must be burned.....at the stake.

But forreal people, Bruce Pearl is a proven winner everywhere he goes. He can turn around our basketball program. People make mistakes and to say they don't deserve a second chance is hypocritical because we all make mistakes.

Since Mikey will not tell me who the burned football and baseball coaches he is referring to will someone please tell me?Otherwise I have no clue what he is talking about.
