Brent Calloway plays a TV Heisman Trophy winner from Alabama......

Very ironic, maybe as close as he ever gets and they say in the TV show, "the Heisman trophy winner from Alabama", not UAT... :-\

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- For a few moments Wednesday, Brent Calloway was "the Heisman trophy winner from Alabama."

That was the role Calloway -- one of four players kicked off the Alabama football team in February and no longer enrolled at the university after his second arrest since Oct. 2011 -- assumed in his national acting debut on USA Network's "Necessary Roughness."

"I just submitted my photos for a part and I got the part," Calloway said Friday in a phone interview with AL.com. "That's basically how it happened."

Calloway's appearance in the show, which kicked off its third season with Wednesday's primetime episode, comes near the beginning of the drama's premiere. He's simply "the Heisman trophy winner from Alabama" who flashes a thumbs up to Connor McClane -- played by John Stamos -- after he signs a contract with McClane's agency, V3.

"Necessary Roughness" is filmed in Atlanta. Calloway, a former four-star prospect from Russellville whose recruitment became a national story after he flipped from Auburn to Alabama, said he now lives with his father in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Calloway said he's always been interested in acting and took drama classes in high school. He said he's received numerous e-mails about other auditions, but his focus remains on working and preparing to continue his football career at a junior college.

"I've always kind of been a people person," Calloway said. "I'm a man of all trades."

On Feb. 11, Calloway was charged with one count of fraudulent use of a credit card when he allegedly used another UA student's action card to purchase snacks from a vending machine on the first floor of Bryant Hall. The card was acquired by Eddie Williams, D.J. Pettway and Tyler Hayes after they allegedly attacked and robbed two students.

It was Calloway's second arrest since he signed with Alabama, as he was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana in Oct. 2011. After redshirting his first season at Alabama, Calloway, who switched from linebacker to H-back heading into his second season, played primarily on special teams in 2012.

The four former players recently had their scheduled arraignment delayedbecause of their respective applications for youthful offender status. A representative for Tuscaloosa Circuit Judge Charles R. Malone told AL.com that a hearing could take place in July, but a date has not been set.

Calloway said he's heard from a number of his former teammates since Wednesday.

"A lot of people are saying congratulations. A lot of encouragement, which is much needed right now," said Calloway, who re-Tweeted a few of the well-wishes he received after the show aired. "Just a lot of encouragement. No negativity at all. It's all been encouragement."

It's fun to poke fun at stuff like this, but I see it from a different angle. Here's my theory, and I'm sure I'll get blasted as it does sound like a conspiracy, but I'll let you be the judge.

In the past several years, no recruit has had as much shadiness and deception surrounding his recruitment than Brent Calloway. I would venture to say that Brent would be the best chance to bring the wrath of the NCAA down on turdtown, so it is probably high on the REC's list to keep him happy. I think this part on TV is the equivalent of "hush money". How many people do you know that are trying to break into acting that have gone on 100's of interviews/auditions, and never received a 2nd look. Brent just sends in a photo of himself, and gets the job???

Or the studio saw it as a gift... a player who had no real NCAA concerns, actually used to play for Alabama, and wouldn't demand the kind of paycheck that a real Heisman trophy winner would demand for a 2 second walk on with no lines.

Very valid points! No red tape to get around using an actual NCAA athlete.

Still leaning to the "hush money" theory, though. :-\

It is interesting.....since he's not exactly a well known bammer. You just know some palms were greased somewhere.

Bryan Matthews has an article (free) stating that Calloway is heading out to Arizona Western College, in hopes of playing 1 year before making a return to D1 football. Here's hoping this young man can turn his life around. I really think Auburn dodged a major bullet with this guy. Interestingly, the homepage refers to Calloway "transferring".

Article also discusses Oregon, and their pending sanctions. Another bullet dodged with Seastrunk. Crazy world, this "elite recruiting".

I doubt anyone who followed BC from the beginning ever thought he'd be a starter for bammer. All saban did was mess with this kid's life. It's a shame. I hope he grows up a little and learns to choose his friends wisely from now on.
