Aplin, a native of Tampa, Fla., led Arkansas State to back-to-back conference championships and completed his four-year career with more than 25 combined single-game, season and career school records and as the conference’s all-time leader in completions, passing yards and total offense.

From Arkansas State, Aplin competed in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game, and then as an undrafted free agent, he participated in rookie mini-camps with the Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins. Neither signed him, so he moved on to the Canadian Football League.

He got looks from three CFL teams, even participating in preseason workouts with the Montreal Alouettes, but between timing and a logjam of other quarterbacks on the respective teams, it didn’t work out for Aplin.

Alpin was an "administrative intern" last year at Ole Miss under Hugh Freeze.

Another good background article ...

"Ryan is going to be a big-time college coach. Any time you've got successful quarterbacks that have been in your system, that's always a plus."

"I think I'm getting ready to lose another one to Auburn and I can't stop the young guy because I don't have a spot for him and they do," Freeze said Tuesday, hinting to Aplin's departure. "We all love the guy."

Welcome to the Loveliest Village on the Plains, Ryan Alpin! Think you'll like it...to the point that if you get to use this opportunity as a springboard to a paid coaching position elsewhere, you're likely as not to spend years thinking about "How do I get back to Auburn?"

This is a great hire IMHO because of Ryan's understanding of Gusball nuances but as much as anything, it's also a nod to Rhett's marketability and his potentially leaving us for a HC job sooner rater than later. Not that Ryan immeidately jumps into the OC position if that happens but they've both been QBs in this system so Ryan is Rhett...without Rhett's coaching experience.

Good points. On Lashlee, I have been impressed listening to him speak to the press and watching film of him coaching. I think he will be a HC some time.

I personally think once Rhett leaves for a HC job Dameyune Craig will take his spot

Not really. Watch out for Bobby Bentley.

That sounds strange, what do you base this on? I mean what leads you to think that Bentley would jump CDC? Don't know much about Bentley but it seems he needs to be brought into college football, at this level, at a reasonable pace. Not just brought in then after one or two years be made OC. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Two things....1, i LOVE this pick up. I'm a CSU alum but a DIE HARD Auburn fan that travels thousands of miles every year to make it to a couple of games. When CSU hired Joey Porter it had a HUGE impact on the team. While Aplin obviously doesn't have the NFL pedigree like Porter did, he was a college standout and everybody knows he could ball. Think its a great fit.....2, since I'm new how do i start a new post topic? says i can't? I'm going out to the K St game and want to start talking about travel, hotels, tailgating etc.....and ask somebody to bring me some zaxbys chicken or at least a mike and eds pork chop sandwich ;-)

CDC is currently the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. Bobby Bentley runs the spread playbook at Byrnes HS and he is a long time friend of CGM.

Other possibilities:

-CDC promoted from Co-OC to OC and Bentley to Co-OC.

-CDC promoted from Co-OC to OC and Chip Lindsey to come back at Auburn as OC or Co-OC and QB coach.

Welcome to the board. Just out of curiosity, what is your connection to Auburn? How did you become a fan?

You have to have a minimum of 50 posts before you can start a new thread. (You can get there pretty quickly by actively participating in some of the active discussions in this, recruiting, or political forums.) There will no doubt be one or more threads on the KSU game as the season gets closer.

Gotcha, thanks for the heads up. I used to work with a couple guys that graduated from Auburn in 99....back in like 07-08 (can't remember the year exactly) they took me to an Auburn game at Arkansas (when they face stomped Jones and McFadden). I instantly fell in love with the team and the Auburn fans. Have gone to at least 1 if not 2 games AT Auburn ever since. We get there on Wednesday to setup the tailgate in the RV field and party for 4 days....absolutely epic. Now I spend every saturday in the fall wanting to puke, wringing my hands, and screaming at my tv decked out in orange and blue....some of the best times of my life :-)
