"Pittsburgh police officers made a huge heroin bust at a home owned by former Steelers defensive back Deshea Townsend. Two men were arrested at the house, and police seized 1,500 bricks of heroin, 16 guns, $100,000 in cash, two luxury cars, jewelry, and a live chicken. Live chicken!

Townsend is currently the cornerbacks coach at Mississippi State University, and although he owns the house where the bust was made, there isn't yet any clear indication he was involved in all that guns and heroin business. Whatever happens, we hope the chicken makes it out of this mess OK."

I think this is the first time I've ever seen "Heroin" and "Live Chickens" as tags for the same story!

Thanks for posting, for the healthy "guffaw" it gave me if nothing else! :rollin:

He lives around the corner from my parents. If he's a drug kingpin, he's made a smart decision to live well below his means to keep from drawing attention. Exactly the kind of move you'd expect ... from a Kingpin!!

Seriously though seems like a nice guy that works a lot. I bump into him from time to time.

There's probably no real connection to him. Yes, he owns the house, but it is managed by a rental agency and he obviously doesn't live there. I wouldn't expect any of it to be linked to him.

That's A LOT of heroin! Four grams in Alabama is trafficking. Heroin is without a doubt, unequivocally, the most dangerous and deadly drug in the world.

You're probably right, but in the US at least, I'd say crack cocaine and crystal meth are giving it tight competition.

And yeah, that's A LOT of heroin! When I read it, I thought "Was the whole damn house build out of heroin bricks?!?"

Where I police, western side of Jefferson County, heroin is our number one drug problem. It surpassed crack about three years ago and now, 90% of crack dealers have changed their product to heroin. West Jefferson county is the second largest heroin distribution point in the southeast behind only Atlanta. Heroin exploded with the opiate pain killer addictions (oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc). It's a cheaper and more intense rush/high. The body metabolizes heroin into basically morphine.

Meth remains rural. Heroin is physiologically and psychologically addicting, it's incredible what addicts will do to "dose". Dose is a term they use to say they're not getting that much of a high but keeping from getting the pains and sickness associated with withdrawal. Heroin overdoses have increased 450% over the past 4 years.

There's a pic somewhere of what they confiscated in the raid, and the "bricks" they found are not like you would think. You can't compare it to bricks of cocaine or even marijuana, for that matter. It looks to be broken down and ready for individual sale. So, I don't know why the report called it "bricks".

I haven't seen the pictures but heroin is usually sold in tenths (tenths of a gram). It is also usually sold for $10 for a tenth or a "ten".

... search on this drug: krokodil

((just don't look at the images))

Krokodil is the street name for desmorphine. Desmorphine is an opiate which of course is what heroin is, an opiate. The body metabolizes heroin into morphine. The two are basically cousins. Krokodil is to the Soviets as to what heroin is to the U.S.. The main difference is the obvious damage, especially external, that krokodil does.

Thanks for the info! ...here and your other posts.

You're welcome. I wish I didn't have to know as much about heroin as I do, but it's absolutely destroying the community where I work.

Sadly, there are a lot of communities going through this as well. It's turning into quite an epidemic.
