Well, an open primary is what knocked Cynthia - Much about a hair do - McKinney out of office, back in 2004.

Denise Majette still went on to win the for the Dems anyways, but at least the nut job was ousted, for a bit.

Cantor talked about immigration reform / illegal alien amnesty way too much. It did him in..

Yeah, because those who knew him best saw it for what it was - pure lip service, and nothing more.

They didn't trust him. So he's done.

Hard to tell who's happier over Cantor loss -- GOP right or Democratc left.

@brithume

The Democratic left happy over a Tea Party victory? I don't think so. No, not at all.

What if he turns out to be another Sharron Angle?

I think it's awesome! Cantor is a snob and Dave Brat (college professor) is a great move for VA. Now he has to win in Nov.

The Democrats prove their ability every time a website locks up and another big city files bankruptcy.

:dunno:

OK

Wow Ben, that was strong. :-\

I never said I was pulling for the Dems. I'm just laughing at the GOP's misfortune.

Misfortune? Please explain.

He sees this as an opportunity for the left to spin the story into this..."those crazy republicans and their infighting, they'll never even figure out who they are" However, this is not GOP misfortune as he characterizes it.. This is the voice of the people speaking loudly and clearly that they're sick to death of the establishment republican party being spineless wimps scared of their own political shadows. Cantor spent over $5 million dollars and Brat spent less than $200K.

This is a great day for the future of conservatism and hopefully the beginning of the end of status quo Washington politics.

Misfortune? Please explain.

The establishment Republicans, and especially Mr. Cantor.

Cantor was part of the team that led the G.O.P. to victory in 2010 and the mastermind of a young-guns program that propelled the very sort of Tea Party candidate who ultimately spelled his doom.

Most people are tired of establishment republicans. I know I am. Besides its the establishment that has fought tooth and nail against the TEA Party candidates because they dont want the boat in Washington rocked. Those establishment guys will have to be more receptive to conservative principles going forward.

The NYTImes is hardly the place to be getting insight on republican politics. They're far to busy backing the left and covering for barry.

Cantor's big mistake was coming out and saying it is time to cut a deal with Obama on immigration. bad idea, very bad.

Got to love the NYT. :-\ Like I said earlier, there is no one on the left happy about this. That is the equivalent of voting for Ted Cruz. No, no freaking way that is happening.

The fact that a movement that the establishment GOP initially embraced has come back to bite them in the ass makes me chuckle.

You've lost your mind if you think the GOP ever embraced the TEA Party. The establishment republicans hated them and their politics as much as the democrats did. That is a fact. There has been notable acrimony about establishment incumbent republicans getting primaryed by TEA PArty candidates. Make no mistake, the old guard resents those challengers

I understand you guys don't like the times, but there are other more, *ahem*, ideologically pure sources out there that say the same thing.

It gave me a good chuckle. But it's too bad for the Dems they didn't run a serious candidate. What if this guy is a whackaloon?

He's not. He is a professor at Randolph Macon and he is very serious candidate. he is anti-amnesty and anti cutting any immigration deals. have you been following the news on the massive influx of illegal aliens that our govt is busing in from Central America? If he was a nut he would not have won with a budget of $200K against an incumbent opponent spending $5mil. His democrat opponent also happens to be a professor at Randolph Macon

This is a primary election. What are you talking about the dems not running a serious opponent? The general election is in november

Anyone can come on here and freely spin this Tea Party victory any way they so choose, but there is no way in hell Democrats are happy Ted Cruz and company won tonight. Bottom line fact!
