APR Concerns???

I am in no way trying to be a downer here with all the positives going on with the program but I heard on the local sports show that Auburn could be facing serious APR issues coming up particularly in 2015-2016 when I would think Pearl could really have this thing rolling. I don't begin to understand how they calculate the APR or how players being "processed" out could effect that but the host said it would hurt if Auburn had to release some of their current players. Now disclaimer the host is a bammer grad and though he does a decent enough job of staying neutral MOST of the time he is still at heart at bammer. Just wondering if anyone had any more info or if Pearl had addressed this concern at all.

Article from 5/14/14. Looks like we're on the edge

http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/05/auburn_exceeds_apr_benchmark_i_1.html

AUBURN, Alabama -- For the most part, Auburn's athletic programs remain well out in front of the APR standard for postseason play, although men's basketball still has some work to do to give itself a cushion.

According to the Academic Progress Report released by the NCAA Wednesday, all of Auburn's athletic programs remain in good standing.

"We had a very good year during the 2012-2013 academic year," Dr. Gary Waters, associate athletics director, said in a release. "We need to follow that performance with a similar performance in future years. I am especially pleased that 14 of our 21 teams have a multi-year APR score of 980 or above."

Basketball remains the lowest for the second year in a row, but the program also may have saved itself from falling below the APR's new benchmark, which rose to 930 from 900 a year ago.

One year after earning an 896 and a multi-year score of 940, the Auburn men's basketball program raised its score to 936 for the single year of 2012-2013, maintaining a multi-year score of 940 that ranks 12th in the SEC.

Auburn football posted a single-year score of 978, a few points down from the 985 posted in 2011-12, and the Tigers' multi-year football score of 965 ranked ninth in the SEC, although ahead of the national average of 957.

Men's cross country, men's golf, women's golf, gymnastics, women's tennis and volleyball all posted perfect single-year scores of 1,000, and both men's golf and men's cross country earned awards for a multi-year APR of 1,000.

"It is also important to note that all 12 women's teams have a multi-year APR score of 975 or above," Waters said.

Thanks for that info Golf, the concern noted on the radio show was the 09-10 year which was a good year APR wise for AU would be rolling off the four year average they use and if it dips this year it could put them in a precarious spot.

Article explaining Pearl position on academics.

http://www.oanow.com...17a43b2370.html

It wasn’t until new head coach Bruce Pearl arrived that Canada was once again reminded of the responsibilities that come with being a student-athlete at Auburn.

“Coach came in and looked at my grades and said I’ve got to get them up or he’s going to recruit over my head,” said Canada, the team’s backup point guard last season under Barbee.

“I think there’s a direct correlation it requires to be competitive in the classroom to be successful on the floor,” Pearl said Thursday. “Players tend to think they’re being evaluated based solely on their points, rebounds and field-goal percentages, and that’s just not the case.”

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. You are not being a debbie downer when you bring legitimate info to the board even if it might not be great news. This is something I am sure Bruce Pearl will address as soon as he can.
