Was at the TAMU-MSU Game...

A few things to watch for:

  • MSU does the whole NFL-WAY-TOO-LOUD-MUSIC thing. It will get very tiring.
  • MSU really didn't do any cheers except Hail State and Go State. The crowd was loud but not that loud.
  • Their band gets a certified meh. Most high schools in AL do a better show and sound better too.
  • Their two video screens rock. They keep the fans fired up with crowd shots. (We really need help here IMHO.)
  • The fans think Mullen is gone after this year. Florida?
  • Dak Prescott looks very Tebow-ish at times. He is for real. Their team is for real.
  • The late TAMU scores were against total scrubs.
  • Fans were awesome. Not a foul word, taunt, etc. Very classy bunch.
  • The bathrooms were a nightmare to get to. The mens room had a 50ft line going to it in the upper deck.
  • The Upperdeck concourse is closed in. It was very nice.
  • They ran out of concessions stuff BEFORE THE DAMN GAME EVEN STARTED...They were out of everything but drinks, dippin dots, and nachos by halftime.
  • The campus was WWWAAAYYY improved since my last visit in 1997. Ethan actually said he could go there.
  • Women are close to Ole Miss standards these days.
  • They have multiple elevators to the upper decks. We should have this as well. Maybe 4 per end of each upper deck.
  • The MSU Run game is okay. Their OL is very good, not great.
  • DeRunnya whatever is very good.
  • Their DL was a complete mismatch against TAMU. TAMU is way too small up front.
  • I still think we win, but this game is for the SEC West imho.
  • We lose, we are done. MSU will likely run the table after us.

Having grown up in Starkville, I'll say the women in Starkville have been beautiful for a very long time.

The campus and the city are incredibly improved since I left. I'm proud to say one of my closest friends is the mayor, and he's done a great job. The place is one of the fastest growing, most progressive cities in Mississippi, which may not say a ton, but you couldn't even say that in the mid-90s. I'll be at the game this weekend, and I'm looking forward to a great game between two really good teams.

Cool post. I enjoyed reading your observations. I agree with you on Dak Prescott. Reminds me a lot of Tebow.

I like the fact that AU has faced a similar style QB in Waters with KSU and absolutely stymied him on the ground, so I expect that will be the gameplan this week as well.

All of this is spot on, but I would add:

• All of the roads around the stadium will be blocked off/reserved. Don't waste your time.

• Stop by their creamery/dairy store and get some ice cream, cheese, beef, or whatever else. This place is pretty cool. All made by AG students, and all exceptional.

• The bathrooms in the Barnes & Noble (on campus bookstore) have always been closed on gamedays when I've been there. If you see a port-o, go ahead and use it. There's a bakery with bathrooms (and a Subway) if you're just totally anti-port-o.

• If you have UD seats, take the elevator.

• If Auburn gets up big early, the fans will be non-existent. I have never been to an MSU game and heard it get "loud."

The bells. How bad are they in person, really? We've been putting off a game here until kids are older, largely due to the bells.

I have a very good friend that is a MSU grad and fan. He got home from the game 4-5 hours after and said his ears were still ringing. He's a great fan of FOOTBALL not just MSU. He's looking forward to the game and says he thinks it will be a slug fest. We shall see. I've canceled plans for during the day on Saturday so I can be home in front of the TV.

Personally, they don't bother me. It's not as loud as a good game in Death Valley or the Swamp or Auburn or Tuscaloosa. When the locals are engaged in those spots, it's louder than the cowbells, but if you're not expecting it, a well-placed cowbell in the silence can shock you.

I have been to the AU/Ms State 5-6 times over the years. If you are unfortunate to have some of them in your section it is beyond annoying. I always take some Advil before going into the stadium because if the game is close they will be extremely loud and it is not like crowd noise. Just gives you a headache! The best way to shut them up is get a lead early!

Those stupid cowbells. It's bad when you see some people at the game with earplugs because of those damn cowbells. It's the dumbest thing in college football. Get's on my last nerve. :-:

I was in Starkville WAAAAY back in the day when you could not buy cold beer and then again several years later for the 3-2 baseball, er, I mean football game. The city has improved dramatically. However, should you choose to enter the stadium in a less-than-sober state beware of the stadium steps. They are very steep and if you happen to fall, you will not stop until you reach the bottom...unless of course some lucky person is fortunate enough to slow your roll. WDE and d*** those cowbells!!

OMG, just assumed that was a given. They are very loud with the cowbells and even play the cheesy Christopher Walken Video.

Florida and LSU are louder tho.

TAMU averages 302 across the line I wouldn't say that is small and some of their backups are bigger. MSU average across the D-Line is 269 is the D-line from MSU just lights out phenomenal? MSU O-line 311

Auburn averages O-line 305, D-line 294 with Ownes and 301 with Lambert.

Our D line is very hefty this year. We put a lot more beef on the line but they aren't as fast stunting anymore. Not as much pass rush as I would like but they can jam the run a pretty decent amount if they stop the opposing teams O line stunts and pulls.
