McLoofus 35,182
I think he could really use another year to work on his route running and blocking. Also, his stats will blow up with JJ throwing the ball.

cooltigger21 0
His time will come. He is still very young. Some more time with Gus will help him immensely. Good for Auburn too. Keeps the offensive staff intact. Hard enough to have to do one side of the ball. Two would not be good.

mcgufcm 4,096
I'm pretty sure his background is on the defensive side of the ball. He was listed as one of the second tier candidates to replace Ellis Johnson.
WarEagle10 77
Sounds like he is staying and I am tickled about it. I do believe that Gus is the gameday mastermind. I also believe that Rhett's genius is from Sunday to Friday for us. Him leaving would be a huge loss for us, IMO.

Bill Clark is just a good football coach. Some guys just get it. Not that it matters. It was just a fun hypothetical
metafour 4,958
Also, Malzahn's first job was on the defensive side of the ball Yeah, and that was 23 years ago and he held that position for one year. Clark has spent his entire career on the defensive side of the ball. He is 46 years old, he's not just going to all of a sudden become an OC because "he's a good coach". Guest jojo1515
I don't see Rhett leaving Auburn to take another OC job. Which would be why we are discussing the Tulsa HEAD coaching position... But yes I agree with you
milehighfan 1,239
If, in fact, Lashlee accepted the job as Tulsa's head coach what kind of effect this would have on our offensive recruits?
auburn4ever 1,266
In that case, we should get a young and up coming QB coach. Give the OC job to coach Craig.
FHeal 4
So does CRL have enough of a defensive side enough to be a HC? Guess, only time will tell.... It's just seems that such a lack could make a offensive mind (even a genus) produce a less than desirable product. Just thinking out loud, but IMHO he really needs AU more than AU needs him. As it's a chance to be around, watch, and learn from a guru who's building a defensive scheme (possibly from the ground up). And little more OTJT from another SEC caliper DC could be invaluable to a future freshman head coach. Yes, it seems like a good opportunity and I'd wish him luck. Just really don't know his skill-sets.

Highly doubt you're going to see a defensive specialist flip to an OC... doesn't really compute.

It was posted here by Red yesterday afternoon that Tulsa was looking elsewhere. That makes sense. Tulsa may not be a premier job but its a good enough job they dont have to settle for an up and comer with only 2 or 3 years experience as an OC for their HC job. Thats is not to say that RL isn't a fine young coach but @ 31 years of age and limited experience, I'd say its a pretty big gamble turning over a program to him at this point in his career. He'll make a great HC one day, just not today.
