AU64 10,122
AU doesn't have to FORCE the building owners to do anything . It would be easy to examine police reports to identify trouble spots and encourage better security...especially on weekends and during open "parties". ....and the AU administration is in a position to have recommended standards for apartment complexes and to put those that do not comply on a "not recommended" list for students and parents. That should be enough pressure to get the job done...and Tuskeegee students would benefit too it seems.
musicitytiger 281
My heart is absolutely broken for this young man's family. If anyone knows of anything being done to reach out and show his family some love during this gut-wrenching time, please IM me. God Bless

Does the University feel that by placing this apartment complex on a "not recommended" list that it will deter our students and athletes from attending these off campus gatherings? It's been said that very few AU students live there now.
tbone4jc 2,238
A human life is a precious thing given to us by God. Many kids these days just have no respect for human life. God needs to be put back in the schools. Parents have got to put God in the lives of their children. Parents have got to teach kids that life is not a video game. You can't press a button on a controller and start over. This was probably over something very inconsequential and definitely not worth taking a life over. Praying for the Mitchell Family, The Opelika HS Family and the AU Family. Amen Very well stated an I agree 100%, we need to reach all young men and women to teach them how to control their anger. It should be a requirement starting in elementary school all the way through high school, even into college. Teaching them how to respect others opinions, how to verbally handle disagreements, etc... just a thought.
Randman5000 4,223
Expect some changes moving forward in how Auburn University utilizes off campus facilities for housing ALL students. I can't go into more detail but some changes are coming and AU is looking to get more control through contracts, etc. Can Auburn University prevent these private landlords from renting to Tuskegee students/student-athletes? Because it's pretty well known that University Heights has housed Tuskegee students for quite some time and it's been a breeding ground for some unsavory activities for a long while. Another complex that will be the next will the Garden District - same type of renters and same type of sketchy activities. I'm pretty sure the Fair Housing act prevents that. chimesAU 89
Yeah, Garden District was crazy nice when I was in school. Some of my best memories at Auburn were at parties in GD. Y'all remember that absolutely crazy security guard they had circa 2006-2008?
