First, this is not the first such attack. There have already been such attacks in Asia (Westgate Mall).

But to me, the thing it possibly indicates is a change in the origins of activists from the relatively wealthy and educated classes to the underprivileged who are imagining their problems come from religious and cultural suppression. That would explain the sheer numbers of Issis.
