PikesEagle 168
For you numbers guys, what happens with the scholarships of those individuals that transfer, leave early, etc or the guys lost to attrition? I understand the yearly limit, counting back, and the 85 total limit but just curious on what happens with those possible open scholarships that a team may have. As of now it looks like we have five that want be with the team this year due to transferring (Walker, Alexander, & Harding) or declaring for the NFL draft (Coates & Miller). Wasn't sure if they gave them out to current walk-ons who may be deserving or what.
gilstein21 1
it will open up a slot for 85 man roster, but doesn't necessarily mean an extra recruit can be signed due to how many may be brought in that recruiting cycle.
Mikey 16,566
You're forgetting Jackel Mitchell and JaBrian Niles, both of whom are also gone. That brings this year's attrition up to seven. Seven to eleven is normal, with eight being about average. This attrition is how teams can keep signing close to 25 a year, redshirt several and still stay under the 85 limit. When the new signees enroll in school, they take up these slots and also the slots of graduating seniors. The new kids don't count until they are actually in school and attending class. That gives the seniors and others that are clearing out time to finish the semester's school work.
