LSU Postgame

I caught the last 1:31 after having been at a work event, but that was a great win for the AU program and CBP. Winning on the road against a tournament hopeful is very encouraging. I will have to go back and watch the whole game to see how it played out, but other than missing on one rebound, one FT, and one turnover, AU played that last 1:31 very well. The dish to Bowers by Harrell was a thing of beauty and shows this team is getting there chemistry-wise.

Here's to more success this season.

Auburn won its first road game of the year, and the Tigers did it in an SEC thriller in Baton Rouge.

Auburn beat LSU 81-77 in the Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday night, holding on to the lead in the final seconds. Auburn won thanks to the hot 3-point shooting of KT Harrell and the steady play of Antoine Mason.

Harrell hit five 3-pointers and scored 28 points. Mason hit three 3-pointers and scored 24 points. Cinmeon Bowers had his 13th double-double of the season.

Auburn improved to 11-11 overall and 3-6 in the league. LSU fell to 16-6 overall and 5-4 in the SEC.

The see-saw game finally tipped to the Tigers' favor in the final minute. LSU had the ball and a chance to tie when it inbounded the ball with eight seconds left. But Auburn purposely fouled on the inbound with four seconds left.

LSU had a chance to tie or go ahead with 2.6 seconds remaining, but lost the ball. Mason hit two free throws to close out the game.

Auburn led for the second half of the first half, and the first half of the second half. LSU took a brief lead. Auburn retook the lead and held on

Best game of the year IMO...from start to finish....very few dry spells, at least none that changed the course of the game by very much....and nice work to hold he lead at the end.

I don't normally gripe about officials, but tonight's crew pretty much bent over backwards to hand it to the home team on a platter. Including Bowers in that double tech/personal foul was as bogus as they come. Didn't they bother to glance at the replay? The traveling at the end I didn't agree with either, but we overcame several of those calls, so Way To Go!

Hate it i missed the game. Great win. Living in Louisiana makes beating LSU all the more satisfying. LSU is a thorn in the paw for us in several sports. I always love beating them. War eagle. This is about what i figured for this team. A .500 team most of the year with a push towards the SEC tourney (and beyond? ). Maybe this will be the start of a good run. Just in time to give UK their 1st and maybe only loss of season.

Watched most of the replay. THAT was a basketball team. AU hasn't played that well since Xavier. Saw a much smarter team than we've seen all year. Knocking down shots helps a ton, but it was just a good, solid performance over a good basketball team. Need to string 3-4 of these type games together.

On a side note, I think the ref that was mentioned in another thread must have been the heavy set 50s guy. He was terrible. The double technical he called was rediculous and he missed on a couple of out of bounds calls. And of course that rediculous travel call which he didn't have position to call. He was behind the play and 2 other players. The baseline ref should have made the call, or overturned his call. That guy probably needs to retire.

I've seen several refs that look too old and out of shape to be doing that running up and down the court any more. There must be huge demand for college referees keeping them employed.

I was wondering and still am wondering why they didn't go to the replay on the double technical. Bowers did nothing wrong there. He had his arm pinned up high behind him then the lsu player bear hugged him from behind. There was nothing bowers did to warrant that technical. Playing devils advocate here a second, he likely called the double technical to send a message and clean it up. So in a way I can understand just doing it and moving on, but a technical?? A double foul there would have accomplished the same thing even though nobody watching the game saw Bowers do anything wrong. The announcers agreed Bowers did nothing to warrant the technical. I thought that's what they could use replay to confirm? Need to look that up when i get home.

The travel call on Mason was horrible. Mason didn't even have possession of the ball yet when the travel was called. Jared, you are right, he wasn't in position to make that call. He was the furthest away from the play and looking through multiple players to see something that didn't happen. Neither of the other two officials called the travel and they were in much better position to actually see the play.

Other than those two i thought the game was officiated pretty well. Sure they missed a few out of bounds calls, but that happens with every crew in every game. It's just the human element involved.

It was a great win. I just wish that drunk idiot in the crowd would have shut his gob. Annoying.

On his radio, post-game interview Pearl said having Reed guard the LSU inbound pass was as much about freeing up Bowers to guard Mickey as it was about having Reed force a lob pass. Both worked and we win.

BTW, I watch TV, but listen to AU radio because the color commentator (Ciampi last night, but usually Sonny Smith) tells the truth, and explains technically what the teams are doing. It was interesting to me to hear Ciampi talk about Auburn running the ICE defense. I'm at the level where I understand zone and m2m, but that put me on the internet to find out what ICE meant. When Pearl came out of the locker room he and Ciampi got into a deep discussion of what Auburn had done to win, and icing. It was really educational for me. Here's a video that helped me understand ICE and how Auburn was able to limit damage from the LSU pick and roll:

I love coach Ciampi. Played on the crush team for him a year and he gave me plenty of advice and told me I should really think about getting into coaching.

Well, he's certainly a good one. I really like having coaches join Bramlett on the broadcasts. They always point out interesting things.

I was wondering how much delay there is in Alabama when watching the TV broadcast and listening to the radio?

It's about 30 seconds over the internet. People post stuff on the game thread before I hear it.

As others have said...great win. There haven't been many games in the past couple of years where we overcame mistakes late in a close game to win, especially on the road.

I'm not one to complain about officiating, but last night was bad. Bowers technical was horrible, seemed as though any judgment call went the other way. But the worst was when an LSU player dribble the ball off his own leg OOB and the official who was standing 5 feet away gave the ball to LSU. The defender was beaten on the play and couldn't have touched the ball without breaking some laws of physics.

I'm hoping this will be a springboard instead of a blip. WDE.

I'm in Dunwoody, an Atlanta suburb, and my internet delay is usually about 10-15 secs. I have to stay off Twitter to avoid spoilers, but that's a small price for the improvement in commentary.

The LSU game in BR reminded me of the old days and Pistol Pete....then I saw this piece on al.com today.

Pete could really make a defender look bad...ball handling, passing and shooting.

Good videos.... http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/02/today_in_sports_history_lsus_p.html#incart_river

obviously some of that is just wishful thinking but i do think they could make a little run and win a game or 2 in the sec tourney depending on matchups
