Oregon didn't sign 1 in-state kid

Interesting ...

Oregon brought in a top-20 recruiting class this week, but it was unique in terms of local talent.

For the first time since at least 1998, Oregon didn’t sign a single in-state prospect. 247Sports’ rankings go back to 1999. The Ducks secured recruits from eight different states.

“I think there were two guys that had signed out of the state that were ranked in the top 1,000 players. It’s just the reality of it. As a native Oregonian, I'm a representative of the modern athleticism that is here. We have the good fortune of being able to go across the country and have credibility.”

In other words, in Oregon, high school football is an oxymoron?

But they got some seriously all-star cheerleaders developed in that state.

My sister lives in Oregon, but probably hasn't watched a complete football game since a date night in High School. She took one look at a few plays of an Oregon game on TV and made the comment: "I don't know where they got those players from, but the ethnic makeup of the team doesn't reflect the population around here." DUH!

She majored in sociology at some weird school, so I cut her some slack.

Kind of funny because Oregon has given high school football a whole new life here lately. Pacific northwest love their sports, their love for local flavor, place. Oregon will return but its probably a product of having too many options right now. Look at the turds, recruiting all over after years of success.

Next year will be different.

Pretty sure I need my secret decoder ring for this one.

The PAC 12 schools other than maybe USCw have to recruit nationally. They just don't have the population to support DIv I programs in states like Oregon. In the south we just use Florida to recruit :-)

Well, whatever they do, I hope they learn the difference between "socialist" and "socialism." :-\

A while back when someone noted that Oregon's defensive line was too small, I did a quick look at where the top DL prospects were attending HS...I think there was one of them west of the Rockies.

For HS football out west, it's mostly California and a little bit of Washington. Frankly, it's amazing that Oregon has been as competitive as they have been without any HS base to work from.

Easy there trigger...

There is a very good reason they didnt sign anyone from in state. BECAUSE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IN OREGON SUCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKS.

The rare occasion there is a 5*, the Ducks usually nab em. There are a few problems with high school ball up here. 1, kids simply dont care as much about football here, 2 there are way more things to do over here on the left coast, the 2 main universities in Oregon, have stadiums smaller than some high schools down south. It rains here 99.9999% of the time here from September/October, and football runs from August to January here. During the winter months and summer months, NO ONE talks about football, its not even an after thought.

So there are a few quick tidbits as to why the Oregon Ducks didnt get a single player from Oregon.

Oh yeah, did I mention, Oregon high school sports SUCKSSSSSSSSSSS.

There's a ton of talent in CA and 4 PAC 12 teams there.

Without question. I have lived all over the US, and this place cares the least about football in general, than anywhere I have ever been inside the lower 48. And that is saying something, you know, since I live in the same town as a major university...
