Dumbest criticism of the other party

Confession time. For this thread, look at the other party or a candidate from that party from what you normally vote for or align with. Then identify one criticism, charge, meme, or whatever that your side harped on that you thought was the dumbest. And just so everyone doesn't say the same thing, Obama being a secret Muslim or any birther theories are off the table. Think harder.

I'll go with this one for Obama: the Republican harping on his "you didn't build that" comment. First, I'll post the larger excerpt from that speech for context (emphasis mine):

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the GI Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President — because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.

Everyone wore out that "you didn't build that/somebody else made that happen" phrase. But I think if most conservatives are honest, the rest of the speech surrounding that comment gives it the proper context...that success is part individual initiative and part "things we do as a country/society together." If this speech had been given by Marco Rubio or Bush or someone on their side instead of Obama, there would have been little complaint. Because we do realize that our way of life, our chance to use our individual gifts and talents to do big thing is even possible because of a whole lot of other people and groups (including gov't) laid the groundwork and helped create an environment where such at thing can happen.

So there's mine. You don't have to explain as long as I did, but I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

I know his mindset and he really doesn't believe that the private sector does anything It all comes from government. It's not just his words. Words can be taken out of context. His talk about raising the capital gains tax, even though he knows it will likely cause revenue to fall, because of fairness tell me this It's his actions tell me that this is the way he thinks.

Fine, but this isn't a thread to debate other people's choices of dumbest criticism. It's to offer up what you think is the dumbest and succinctly explain why.

I find it amazing that everyone here is so in lockstep with their chosen political party that they can't come up with anything where they believe their side is padding the stats and making a silly charge against the other side.

Can I quote everything from everyone?

Republicans are racists.

1) Lincoln freed the slaves.

2) Reconstruction was a Republican thing.

3) The VRA was passed with almost Unanimous Republican Support. Democrats fought it tooth and nail.

4) Most KKKers in the day were Democrats, Robert Byrd says hi.

5) George Wallace, Bull Connor, etc were all Democrats.

6) Supposedly the "Conservatives have now all shifted over to the Republican Party, leaving the Democrat Party."

If that many people did leave the Democrats, there wouldnt even be a Democrat Party anymore because i have never heard anyone saying that Republicans left going toward the Democrats.

The one you offered was pretty easy since the Republicans built their entire convention around it as a theme-- they are master of the big lie and message control. Democrats have rarely coordinated their messaging so well. I know I've heard criticisms of Republicans over the years that I thought were unfair or hyperbole, but I don't watch msnbc much and aren't really that exposed to sources where such messaging might be harped on.

I guess I would say that while I think he was an awful president, I never questioned Bush's overarching intent. I don't think he is evil or dumb- (although I don't think he was sufficiently open-mind or intellectually curious to be President.) I think he was often characterized unfairly, even though I think his presidency was disastrous. I wouldn't mind having him as a neighbor and I think we could get along as such. I can't see many republicans here feeling the same about Obama.

Well, in a sense, being what you might consider the "dumbest" would also tend to make it sort of easy. I just thought the birther/Muslim nonsense was TOO easy. :)

I agree with you about Bush. I think his motives weren't evil. I think he's a good man. I think he chose his key advisors very poorly.

Democrats- Anything short of bullying and dictating terms to the rest of the world amounts to "projecting weakness."

Republicans- They want sick people to die in the streets.

"Democrats are godless/atheistic socialists."

That is just not true, The hyperbole machine, that now runs 24/7 during the news cycle has turned normal folks into demonized evil doers.

That is part and parcel of having to fight for viewers all day long.

Republicans are all heartless capitalists."

Truth is there may be some few that are, but by and large i bet they give more time and money to charity than their opposites.

"Democrats are anti-American" BS....they just want a different version than the one the founding fathers created.

"Republicans hate women, minorities and the poor". BS! Some might be ignorant, but they would like to see more people prosper because it allows people to have expendable income that drives up profits and tax revenue.

"Both parties are to blame for the troubles we have". Hell yes!
