As a recap ...

The only true center on Auburn's roster, Matthew Atewe, is out indefinitely after reinjuring his surgically-repaired leg.

Atewe "reopened" the stress fracture he played through last season during Auburn's exhibition win over West Alabama on Nov. 7. The 6-foot-8 230 pound sophomore posted on social media that he was out for the year on Tuesday night, only to later delete the post.

Looks like he's gone for good now ...

oh dear.....I was really thinking he could play an important role next season....looked pretty good when he was able to play ...a bit raw but had the size and hustle to play inside.

I always hate to see I guy who has been around, transfer. Would prefer that he is healthy and playing for AU. That being said ... Was worried he would reinjure and not play.

True but would be nice IMO for someone stay about for the full 4 years and grow a bit each year and provide some leadership.

This business of "one and done" has it's problems...whether they are 5* pre-NBA kids wanting to audition for their next job....or guys who change schools hoping to find an open slot for a year. The latter is definitely a short term solution.

I wish him well. Hoped he would have been out big man next year, but I guess it is not to be.

I'd love a one and done though!

Wonder why?? Bruce Pearl, things looking up competition wise in SEC, chance to be an important key in next years team? Odd decision but guess no one really knows exact reasons why...

Oh, we've had a ton of them in recent years...unfortunately most of what appeared to be our best recruits (and we have had some good ones) ended up being one and done....except they moved on ...voluntarily or involuntarily ...before we ever saw what they could do at AU.

I would just love to see a bunch of good 3* and 4* kids playing their 3rd year at AU...instead of seeing them head out before they ever jell as a team.

The bold made me laugh. We have certainly had our share of one and done but not for the reason you'd want. But if we get a one & done NBA type talent it will jack up the excitement around the bball program while also showing other NBA level talents that they can come to AU and also make big bucks in the draft. Who was the last player we had goto the NBA? Marquis? That was over a decade ago yuck

And so begins another AU Basketball offseason.

Promising prospects with unfulfilled expectations hitting the road for who knows what.

Seen it for a decade. Hoping CBP will stop the hemorrhaging.

Unfortunately nothing new here.

There is a chance CBP, is behind the hemorraging. So, it may be for the better.

Barbee was losing entire recruiting classes before they finished their sophomore year. That had tragic results and left many of us a little gun-shy about transfers. I agree that Coach Pearl may be processing a player here and there, which is different from the recent past and most likely a good thing.
