Rolling Stone Article on Rape at University of Virginia Failed All Basics

The report, published by the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and commissioned by Rolling Stone, said the magazine failed to engage in “basic, even routine journalistic practice” to verify details of the ordeal that the magazine’s source, identified only as Jackie, described to the article’s author, Sabrina Rubin Erdely.

In a statement responding to the report, the University of Virginia’s president, Teresa A. Sullivan, described the article as irresponsible journalism that “unjustly damaged the reputations of many innocent individuals and the University of Virginia.”

Mr. Wenner said Will Dana, the magazine’s managing editor, and the editor of the article, Sean Woods, would keep their jobs.

Ms. Erdely, a contributing editor at Rolling Stone who has also written for GQ and The New Yorker, declined to be interviewed for this article.

It's the bigger story , of rape culture, that matters more.

Just as ' hands up / don't shoot ' is really about racism in America, in general, facts don't really matter here either.

It's a funny thing but every major story that comes up in this country is fueled by a media lie or, at the minimum, misrepresentation of things. These jackwagons hide behind freedom of the press and are never held accountable but they have blood on their hands. They will regret that one day. All this is going to come back and bite them on their collective butts.

The writer apologizes to everyone but the Fraternity she accuses. The Fraternity is the only side we haven't heard from recently. You think lawyers are warming up here?

I don't know but the press is pretty much granted immunity from anything they say or do. It's hard to win a lawsuit against them. They are essentially allowed to yell fire in a crowded theater and not be held to account for it, at least not under the law. Now karma is another matter entirely.

I find this rather remarkable. What sort of mistake does it take for an editor to get fired? :dunno:

Good question and it's remarkable that its you asking it. Many here have often wondered what does it take for someone to be held accountable for the many administrative failures of the Obama administration and there are many. Between the VA and the IRS alone the level of unpunished incompetence and/or corruption truly boggles the mind and all that comes out of it is lies and cover ups but not a smidgeon of accountability.

And why exactly would you say that?

And I am not sure how this relates to Obama and the VA, but I am more interested in the above.

The left fabricated the culture of rape, while wallowing in a culture of unaccountably.

This is another story, Duke Lacrosse, UVA Rape, HUDS, that we ultimately learn that what the MSM treated us to was 100% hokum and smear so that they could benefit from higher ratings and more $$$.

We need a radically reformed libel and slander statute. These folks think they are above the law, above punishment above all of us.

This is another elitist attitude that we desperately need to to destroy.

They are destroying reputations here too. They have a template that they follow and they always go in with the assumption of the guilt of the accused.

Do you remember when the left complained that the problem with the internet was that it had not editors?

They really do have a problem with that. They don't like that there isn't a "filter" that they can run things through to get rid of the truth beforehand. The internet is wide open to all sides. It takes a little work to weed through it as there is so much junk out there but the information is there and people can judge for themselves and make up their own minds and even disagree but they come to the conclusion on their own.. The media doesn't like that.

Goes back to before the internet, when Bill Clinton whined that Rush had 3 hours every day with no truth detector to respond.

They've got all the major television news outlets save one. They've got all the major print outlets. Yet they're still not happy
