Wow, you mean you take a complete dinosaur of a business model, destroy it in a bankruptcy and then turn it around with cutting edge technology and cut employees by 88%?

While i can cheer them turning the company around, i have to cringe at all those older employees getting cremated losing a huge chunk of their pensions and the American Taxpayer having to bail them out while the old Management retired with golden parachutes and used the protected pension funds that were stolen from the employees.

The employees with 30 years in will get about 1K/month in pension. Not the full amount but it is something. Sad that we allowed the rape of employee benefits to the point that we have made the 1% Richer than we could imagine and shrunk the middle class into the dirt.

There is always two sides to every story.

Kellogg, Dolly Madison (Hostess), and Lance (now Snyders-Lance) all were hit with ultimatums during the recession at almost exactly the same time. They/we were all told to either tighten the ship or the doors would close. Well, Dolly Madison shut the doors and Kellogg (all in Columbus) will be doing the same very soon. Meanwhile the Snyders-Lance plant here in Columbus is thriving, running almost non stop, and millions of dollars are being invested into the building and upgrading the technology.

All three are bakeries and only one is non union. Anyone care to guess which of the three has refused to have a union?

When Dolly first closed the doors, Snyders-Lance began to use them as a hiring pool. Now, it's a great idea to not put Dolly on your resume when applying for work at Snyders-Lance. Most all of the Dolly employees that were hired by Lance have since been let go or have left on their own. They have lazy work habits and they complain about everything. Here is a quote from a union representative when Dolly here in Columbus starting hiring again.

"Our members provide immense value to the new ownership with decades of experience, expertise and training", David Durkee, the union's president, said in a recent statement. "Not only have our members produced these quality products for consumers for generations, they know these bakeries inside and out." :bs:

They knew the plant inside and out because they were always looking for new places to sleep.

In fact, Dolly management pleaded and negotiated with the union to work together in keeping the doors open. The union decided to strike. :OnTheCan:

:gofig: WHY??? All three bakeries were told that they needed to get out of the red and the best response was to quit producing the very thing that could get you out of the red???

The current situation at Kellogg is also revealing. The union is complaining because Kellogg is still hiring but the new employees are taking all the relocation jobs that are available. Anyone want to guess where most of the new employees were hired from?

To add salt to the wound, we (Lance) recently had round table discussions between employees and corporate on how to keep improving. Corporate is actively trying to increase the pay scale here in Columbus GA due to our improvement and references made from management at Kellogg.

Why does Kellogg management have to do with our pay at Snyders-Lance???

Well, during the round table discussions it was mentioned that three of our former employees would be joining Snyders-Lance again. The three employees had left Lance and went to Kellogg in the past three years (They pay/paid GOOD money). Lance in Charlotte, has "stolen" a good portion of business from Kellogg in the saltine area due to the loss of production in Kellogg Columbus GA. Charlotte Lance is putting in additional lines just for saltines. Charlotte Lance has hired a manager from Kellogg from Columbus just for this reason. His first request upon being hired, "Can I bring three former Snyders-Lance employees back home?"

This man worked for Kellogg over 15 years and the three he is bringing from Columbus worked with him less than three years. He told corporate they were the best he had ever had.
