Am I Repub or Demo?

Give me your opinions... I know you have them. And even though they all suck, let's hear'em anyways:)

I don't call myself a republican or democrat, and I'm not sure which way I fall more often, maybe some of you political rats will know... I picked a few of the hot topics to start, and just wrote s*** off the top of my head.

1: Healthcare - I want to believe Obamacare is a good thing, but I just haven't seen it. I hear on the TV that it's helped tons of people, but I don't know anyone personally that it has helped. Universal healthcare works for other countries, but I don't think Obamacare is set up like theirs is. I also never had a problem with healthcare to begin with, state provided healthcare covered my children when I got out of the military and kept them covered until I got a decent job that offered healthcare. Neither I nor any of my children were ever uncovered, and I had little to no problems with the system that was in place.

2: Tax policy - I think we need to shake up our tax policy, Rand Pauls idea seemed interesting. Although I'm not knowledgeable enough about the USAs income and expenses to know if it would work or not. I'd be in favor of Rands idea just on the basis that it's different.

3: Social Issues - Gay couples should be allowed to marry. It doesn't harm me or my property for a gay couple to be together, so I don't see how I have any right to deny them a piece of paper saying that they are in a relationship together. Abortion, I don't agree with our current rules. I dislike that a fetus can be seen as a life or not a life based on the whims of it's carrier. I would much rather have a team of doctors/scientists decide what constitutes a human life and have that be the mark. It seems strange to me that two women can both be 20 weeks into pregnancy, one can say "It's not a human life" and have it aborted with no problems. The other woman can say "It is a life" and if you assault her and she loses that fetus you are charged with murder. Lastly, gun control... I'm in favor of some control, like not letting felons go stock up on rifles. People with mental disabilities as well. But if a law abiding citizen wants to own a firearm I think they have that right.

4: Environmental Issues - I think we need to constantly be working on coming up with new and better energy sources. If the government can speed that up with grants then great. I do believe we should use more resources on researching new tech, instead of wasting time and money on crappy clean up efforts.

I'm sure there is some big issue I've missed, but what does it look like so far? I'm thinking more or less split down the middle.

Congratulations! You are a thinking person which by default makes you neither R nor D.

“The common and continual mischief's [sic] of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and the duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it. It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passion.” George Washington - Sept 19, 1796

You appear to be the typical American voter. While most of us want to believe everyone should be put in a conservative/liberal box, most Americans are split down the middle like yourself. So voters liker yourself are looking for ideas from candidates. Who had a healthcare plan, Obama or McCain? Who has a tax plan? Rand Paul. Most Americans are looking for a candidate who can articulate a plan to improve there lives. (This forum is not indicative of most Americans)

I'd say your and Independent.

I support this message!

BTW, i am a slightly more supportive of the ACA, but right with you on just about everything else you mentioned.

I consider myself Independent. I know i am not a mindless Gruber Goober and I am certainly not a mindlessly pro-1%er Conservative/Republican either.

I would say you fall in the libertarian camp with a slight twinge of Green Party....and before anyone says it...not all libertarians think the same...some are more liberal some are more conservative...depends upon the issue.

This was my avatar when I first joined this forum a few years back. Minus the knit cap, of course.
