The rematch of the 2011 BCS Championship Game will pit the programs against each other for only the second time in history. The game is the 11th in the AdvoCare Classic series and will be played Aug. 31, 2019.

"I'm thrilled that Auburn will face Oregon in an epic match-up of two elite programs on a big stage to open the 2019 season," Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs said in a statement. "I know how much it means to our players to have an opportunity to play in high-profile games; it is one reason they choose to come to Auburn. I'm also happy for the Auburn family, the best fans in college football. They always travel in masses to support our program, so this is a great reward for them as well."

It's important for Malzahn's program to maintain a national presence. One way to do it is keep competing for national titles. Another is to schedule marquee intersectional matchups.

The SEC has mandated that its schools must play at least one Power 5 non-conference opponent every year. Given that requirement, Auburn couldn't have done much better than doing a deal with Oregon.

"Auburn and Oregon are two of the cool teams right now," Jacobs said Tuesday on The Paul Finebaum Show. "The kids want to play for us because we're fun and we're fast."

"[it] will be a lot of fun for our players. We're two of the fun teams in the nation right now. This is who guys want to come play for. Our fast-paced offense, a run-oriented offense that throws the balls a lot, we're a lot of fun to play with. We're sort of the hip team right now, and we plan to keep it that way."

...

"When you can't match up a home-and-home, a game like this in Dallas is just perfect for us," Jacobs said. "We'll play in a professional stadium, one that's part of the College Football Playoff, and it will be great for our players. We couldn't be more thrilled about it."

...

As for the opponent in 2018?

"We've made some progress, but we haven't inked a deal," Jacobs said. "We're going to make sure we get an exciting matchup just like we did for 2019. We're going to make sure it's exciting for our players and our students and our fans."

Auburn gets it. The bigger the matchup, the better it will be for college football.

Wish it was a 2017 game opposed to a 2019 game but I'm very glad we have a marquee opponent on the schedule other than Clemson

JJ done good!

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.

Been finding a lot for a little while now. Too bad people have a hard time giving credit when it's due.

Great news! The last time Auburn played them, it was a great game (made better by the win). Glad to have a rematch. And it's good to continue having PAC12 games on our schedule.
