Clowney says Nick Saban is not the king of football: ‘He ain’t nothing but 5-foot-5’

Alabama coach Nick Saban is known as one of the best recruiters in college football.

Tide fans call him “Lord of the Living Room” for his ability to charm players and their parents.

But Jadeveon Clowney, the nation’s No. 1 recruit in 2010 who signed with South Carolina, was not impressed with Saban or his sales pitch, according to a new book, “Saban: The Making of a Coach.”

After Saban’s in-home visit to Rock Hill in December, 2010, Clowney said the coach did all the talking.

“I don’t see no big deal like everybody else. They’d say, ‘He’s the king of all of football.’ The guy ain’t nothing but 5-5. He’s a short guy. Everybody’s going crazy on Nick Saban.

“He talked the whole time he was there. I was dozing off. He can talk. A lot. He talked for a whole straight hour.”

Clowney said he would have committed “a long time ago” to Alabama if the Tide had run a 4-3 defense instead of a 3-4 defense.

Lolol @ Cole.

Im on board with any and all Saban bashing however after all of that negative stuff in the blurb he ends it with he would've signed with Bama if they ran a 4-3. Lol what?

Still waiting on Clowney to live up to his hype.....not showing much class with comments like this though the author was probably just looking for some quotes to draw attention to his book.

JMO, Clowney would have spent a lot of time on the bench at bama if he had displayed the same attitude that we saw at USCe....he got away with giving part-time effort because he had very little competition.

And again, JMO but he would be a better player now if he had gone to bama and had to work harder.

I'm no fan of Nick Saban, but his record at Bama speaks for itself. Even the years they didn't win the national championship, they were in the race until the bitter end (except his first year and 2010). I agree with other posters on this thread---Clowney needs to live up to his hype and not worry about Saban or anyone else.

+1

I agree - Clowney would have never gotten by with his level of "work ethic" if he were playing for NS.

Why the guy still have Saban on the brain after all these years is crazy IMO.

Let's be fair here. With the lifts in his shoes weeman is 5'7".

There's nothing inherently wrong with being short. But apparently it bothers him enough that he overcompensates by being a cheating jackass with an ego as big as his temper tantrums. His intimidation and condescension tactics are all about short man insecurity. That's why it's a thing to make fun of him. He's so obvious about it.

I remember Al.com running a picture when Chizik was the coach that was tilted to make them look the same height. When the picture was untitled, it was obvious Chiz was a good 3-4 inches taller. Things like that are what make it so fun to poke fun at Saban's height.
