Rob Pate Nails it

Proud Tiger

Recommended Posts

His article is behind the pay wall.

I don't know what Rob said, but it is crystal clear that giving all the blame to JJ is way off base. Yes, his play has been terrible, but guess what....there are a bunch, I mean a bunch, of players AND coaches who need to look into the mirror because their performance has also been terrible.

There is something wrong with this team. I am starting to think that there is dissension on the team and folks are mailing it in. What the %^$# is wrong with this team?!!

I'm not sure what the pay wall is you refer to. The link works for me. It is a public article on 247 Sports

Post a different link then. It is either that or you have been giving money to 247 every month and didnt even know it lol.

See modified OP. Hope this works. If not I have no clue.

Well good side is if you're not paying it seems you have a free subscription....

Proud has so much money he doesn't realize what he pays for.

First of all Rob pate sucked....second there are many things that need to be fixed

Wasn't he the starter at safety (?) for a few years? on some very good defenses?

Tiger, I remember the opening game of Pate's freshman year. I was wondering who #31 was, and I found out later he was a true freshman. If a four year started can be classified as a sucky player, I'd have to question the football "enlightenment" to those who classify him as such.

What were the records of those teams?

1997 10-3 (Bowden, SEC West Champs)

1998 3-8 (Bowden fired, Oliver is interim)

1999 5-6 (Tubbs first year)

2000 9-4 (Tubbs, SEC West Champs)

Try a Google search. Just type in "Rob Pate Articles" and you will see it in a list there. It says "Rob Pate....No Excuses."

Still a pay site article. lol

Why do you think there is something wrong with this team? Because of two tough wins? Those kids pulled it together last week and won, it should not have been close but JSU was not a run of the mill FCS team. We thought we could roll the helmet out and win, but found out the hard way that was not gonna happen. As for Louisville - that game was well in hand, the change to that mobile QB caught AU off guard but AU did what was needed to win. What I see is a talented but young team. They are still growing together, and learning to play together specifically on the OLINE...as for JJ, this stage may prove to be too big for him, hopefully he settles down this weekend and plays like he know he can.

Missed the post-game ceremonies. Did everyone get a trophy?

Pate was about like etheridge, a decent safety that liked contact. NEVER wanted him covering somebody one on one. But to talk in that tone I think you at the least need to be a NFL player

Rob Pate was damn good safety he wasn't the fast guy on the team but he had nose for the ball and could tackle.Wish we had him playing now we would have better team with him.

I respect RP for his playing time but I've read enough of his commentary over the years to take his views lightly. Most of the things I have seen...he's overly critical of players and coaches....and despite having played the game, seems to expect perfection where it's not going to be found.

You pretty much gave the scouting report of etheridge...like I said but I have a question if Matthews wasn't hurt do you think Pate starts? If so who does he start for? I say no way in hell

That's what I was saying but of course you said it much more eloquently

Matthews may turn out to be great I don't know ,let him play four years like Pate and we will see, right now he has only played one game.

As an upperclassman he MIGHT have been better than our young guys behind the starters, but there's no way he's in Ford's or Matthew's league.

I'd wager he's a much better athlete than you could ever have dreamed of being. Can only really good NCAA players have opinions about football? If so, that discounts everyone on this board's opinions.

I could care less what you imagine. And I didn't say they are the only ones that can talk but when you're absolutely blasting kids for not doing something you couldn't do when you played it makes me laugh. And better football player absolutely, better athlete than I could ever imagine?? Not close

Lol is that why you're sitting around posting about football on a message board instead of playing? I know it's anonymous and you can pretend to be whatever you want, but you're not a better athlete than a guy who started at a big time SEC school, otherwise you could've done something similar.

No like I said he's a better football player but that doesn't mean the better athlete. So no that doesn't mean I could do something similar. Now you put him on a basketball court it would be interesting to say the least....But the fact your mind can't comprehend it....yeah you just sit back and eat your chips and be quiet because apparently you never competed at a high enough level to fathom. But I'm not you

FYI Rob Pate did play in the NFL (Chargers) and they don't take players that suck. Rob is a big fan of the team that knows they can be better.

Well we all have opinions but he's not a type of player imo that can look down on players, and he's definitely not the type that whatever he say goes. People still to this day talk about reed, Thorpe, Wright, and blackson are all NFL players.

I get what you're saying Cole. But with that logic Rhett Lashlee should not even be allowed in the facility to coach QBs because he essentially peaked as a HS QB.

I question Lashlee's ability to coach our QBs but his playing experience is not part of why I don't think he's a good QB coach. It's his lack of attention to the finer parts of the game.

I also think Pate was embarrassed because he was part of the program and a key contributer and is more emotionally invested in the program than any of us.

Here's a link. War Eagle.

http://www.gamedaybu...mply-no-excuse/

That link worked for me and I don't pay for that service. I don't see anything in the article particularly controversial. The offense is struggling in part b/c JJ isn't respected for his legs and we're not attacking the middle of the field with our passing game. Let JJ run. JJ will get better. The problem with the defense is we are playing more true freshmen than he could ever remember and injuries.

cole, you were maybe 11 or 12 years old when rob pate played his last year at auburn. I don't see how you can possibly say he sucked.

Ok bro, first of all you need to be on my side at all times, if for some reason you're not you don't need to expose my age and whatnot.....It's either my side or you sit this one out....:) and can I not watch films of certain games????
