Disgraceful Pandering, Deception, and Fueling the Politics of Race

When asked how the Republican Party can win over black voters, Bush responded:

"Our messages is one of hope and aspiration. It isn't one of division and get in line and we'll take care of you with free stuff."

Why make such a racial statement in South Carolina? Pandering to the base? Has any other Republican named Bush successfully played the race game in South Carolina before?

"In South Carolina, where Bush was speaking, five of the seven congressional districts have a greater percentage of white households than black on food stamps, as of March of this year. All of them are represented by Republicans."

"But poor whites vote Republican -- and more heavily Republican than all white voters. If anything, it's the Republicans, then, that are benefiting from the "free stuff" giveaways."

"It's worth noting, too, that lots of people get "free stuff" from the government. Seniors get a lot of government-program support, but they vote more heavily Republican. (Even older non-white voters tend to vote less Democratic -- though not much less.)"

Maybe the real issue is not the "free stuff" but rather, the skin color (at least in terms of the political value) of the people receiving the "free stuff"?

So, what would the actual Republican response be? Can you tell us which of the 14 Republican candidates for President are real Republicans?

Factual and real..

And irrelevant.

Very relevant. The Left falsely accuses the Right of racism, time and time again.

Once again, the discussion is not about racism but rather, the role of race in politics. Were Bush's remarks racially charged? Were his remarks calculated considering his audience? Do both Republicans and Democrats use race as a means to a political end? Is this divisive? Is the problem "them" (political opposition) or, is the problem all of us? Did you read the Huff Post article in post #11? If not, you should. Whether you agree or not, is irrelevant. It is thought provoking and, provides some very interesting statistics.

Irrelevant to this thread. Start your own thread if you want to change the subject (which you obviously are trying to do).

And this is the guy who just loves to tell people "please try to keep up". :-\

You start a topical thread about the exploitation of race in a political campaign, and he wants to talk about the diversity of a given Rep. POTUS cabinet because "the left falsely accuses the right of racism time and time again".

I have this image of Jeb just getting bucked off a wild bull and Raptor comes running up as a rodeo clown waving a change in topic to distract the bull.

He jumps around more than Dr. Who.

"Please try to keep up" my ass!
