Where is Byron Cowart?

Having all the single digit players on DL/LB units make it difficult to keep up sometimes lol

Having a 90 year old man do color commentary for ESPN doesn't help either.

He was sniping about Ricardo running out of bounds with 3:10 left to play...uh, coach they changed that rule in '08.

I told my wife the same exact thing last night.

Lawson made a pretty significant impact for the 2013 Tigers. It took till around mid-season to find his role, but he was dominant against Ole Miss and very good against Alabama that year.

Corey Lemonier was an impact player as a true freshman in 2010 as well.

Face it guys... there is no harder position to excel as a freshman that D-line. Your job is to manhandle guys who are pushing 300lbs and strong as an ox, and do it while everything around you is moving far faster than you've ever experienced. No one has any good reason to expect anything but for him to be a great player. You all just need to develop some patience and act like we've been recruiting at a high level for a while... not like he's our first 5-star.

There are freshmen who come in and play great as freshmen some don't. I wish we'd have at least one of those guys who do every now and then....

Samuel Coates

Did he make any impact plays as a freshman? I'm thinking like clowney or Garrett great. Hell even that corner for Alabama, all he does is come in and make plays

Would've beat Vanderbilt if Clint Moseley wasn't terrible

But I know what you're saying....we've had the potential for it....Carl was it for half a season....Tre might pan out....Roc didn't get the #2 spot like he deserved last year....the potential has been there tho

Corey was okay in spot duty, but definitely not impact.

Sammy took a redshirt, but was not impact until RS sophomore year.

Just glad to see so many freshman getting to play and learn. Obviously it doesn't bode well for immediate success, but should mean a world of difference about game 10 or so. If they all keep working hard and together, they ma become the team we hoped.

Let's give the young man a few breaks!!! I think he is progressing nicely into the type of player who can make an impact and can work well with the other players on the field. If he can stay healthy, BC will emerge as one of the best at his position in the SEC. I think he will wind up as an all SEC Freshman defensive player.

FAIL...Try again. Coates missed his entire freshman season with a foot injury. In his redshirt freshman year he had 6 catches for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Cowart will improve when the rest of the line improves. Cowart hasn't made a bunch of mistakes so far anyways. When/if Lawson returns will be big boost for Cowart, Adams, Lambert, etc... Because right now, it's easy to double team Adams and Lambert, because we've got no one else who can get off of blocks fast enough. Cowarts a great player, but still a freshman, he'll get there. I haven't seen him make a mistake yet, so I wouldn't throw judgement at it right away. We're about to get a lot better, I think, in the coming weeks.

Not if he can put up wonderful pro day numbers. Let him do 28 bench reps and run a 4.5-4.6....he's getting drafted....probably early

Carl was impact as a freshman because he was a pass rush specialist. As I recall he played mainly on passing downs and made some big plays.

Some of his biggest plays were run stops. Especially against bammer. His best pass rushing game would be ole miss but also that game he basically shut their read option plays himself

Do you have to declare for the draft before you go to pro day?

I forget. Good question though

I think they can go to an NFL "evaluation" of some sort, before declaring to see where they may be drafted. Not 100% sure tho. I never had the talent to play NCAA let alone need to worry about leaving early.

You ask for an evaluation they give a grade of something like your a 1-2rd talent or a 3-5th round talent or a 6th-undrafted grade. Then they announce or don't announce and whoever elects to go pro goes to the pro day those that do not elect to go pro don't attend the pro-day.

This sounds correct and is part of the reason why Duke returned this year. He supposedly got a bad evaluation.

I believe Cowart will be a fine player before it's all said and done. I just hope we can build around him. We didn't do a very good job building around Adams and Lawson.

With Lawson out, Adams is really the main threat on the DL. He's always double teamed. Just having a player like Lawson on the line at the same time would make us so much more dangerous, you could see it against Louisville before he was injured and after.

Adams is doing well though despite being ganged up on.

I didn't expect the world from Cowart, that's unfair to him. He'll get his breakout performance before too long.

"Kentucky moved the ball, but some questionable play calling - and some good defense, admittedly - put the Wildcats in 4th and short. Byron Cowart forced the Kentucky QB out of the pocket and the Tigers cleaned up with the tackle for loss on 4th down to seal the 30-27 victory for the Tigers."

Here are the highlights. Watch the play

It's Lambert.

At the 2:37 mark is the play where SW stepped up in the pocket and threw to RL's back shoulder for that long gain. I want you to watch what Braden Smith does on that play with his block on the Kentucky defensive lineman. You won't believe it, lol. The guy is a monster.

By the way, I saw a lot of very good DL line play on those highlights. It was freeing up Cass to make some nice plays. Even with the UK QB's quick release, they were getting some decent 'hurry' on the QB leading to several bad passes.
