Jim Webb considering an independent run for President

Democratic presidential candidate Jim Webb will consider an independent bid for president amid protests by the candidate that the Democratic Party rigged last week's debate for Hillary Clinton.

Webb's campaign emailed out details to a press conference for Tuesday at the National Press Club with the subject line: "Jim Webb to consider independent run." During last week's debate, he only had the chance to speak for 15 minutes compared to about 30 minutes for Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, according to NPR.

"It was rigged in terms of who was going to get the time on the floor by the way that Anderson Cooper was selecting people to supposedly respond to something someone else said," Webb told the audience last week at an event for the Council on Foreign Relations.

"It's very difficult to win a debate when you don't have the opportunity to speak the same amount of time on issues as the other two did."

Webb, a Vietnam veteran and former senator from Virginia, is averaging just over 1 percent in an average of recent polls, according to a RealClearPolitics analysis. That's ahead of both former Govs. Martin O'Malley (Md.) and Lincoln Chafee (R.I.).

Why do I get the feeling the only reason that tag line is out there is that he could siphon off votes from Hillary in a general election?

Taking his 1% with him because CNN slighted him?

Maybe it's 1%. Maybe it's more if he gets heard more. I don't know. He seems to feel like it was more than just CNN doing the slighting (or slanting depending on your level of conspiracy mongering). If it's a close election, does he need a ton of support to influence the outcome?

Don't know, but he's known as being a whiny hot-head. Maybe he can run with Trump?

Yes I did. Still wish his temperament was better because his views on some issues bring value to the discussion. His hissy fit over his debate minutes, however, illustrate how poorly suited he is for the job, which is a shame.

It tough when you're trying to break through and the moderator only seems to want to talk to the presumed front runner. I mean, isn't a moderator supposed to sort of keep that in check? Otherwise we could just have a teleprompter ask the questions and let them shout over each other.

I actually liked the few things he got to say in the debate. Unfortunately he had few chances to speak and when he did have an opportunity he was not a very good public speaker. That seems to be a prerequisite to being a qualified candidate.

Webb actually could be a good candidate for the Democrat party. He seems to be a right of center candidate. Of course that is the problem, he's too conservative for the democrat national party.

Sanders would be the candidate the DNC should worry about as an independent. He would pull more liberal democrat votes than Ralph Nader did.

But Hillary is just soooo interesting as a candidate ! And , you know, the whole first woman President thing.. i mean, do we really have to bother with an election?

Sure it's frustrating. But he lacks the political skills to gain traction as an independent, IMO. You need money or a movement just to gain ballot access.
