TitanTiger 17,602
Paraphrased from Twitter (Kyle Kolumbus): After getting into that initial 14-0 hole, which was exacerbated by completely ineffectual offense early on (mostly dropped passes), Auburn's defense only gave up 130 yds on the next six drives. They did give up 67 on the final FG Arky kicked in regulation. That says the defense did well overall in regulation, but we don't have the depth to keep going after that, especially 4 OT periods against a big, physical offensive line. We just wore out. Wow, that's a great stat. As bad as the defense appears at times they have kept us in games where the offense either didn't show up or took a while to get going, Moo State, Jax St., and Arky

Last year's D would've put the O in an impossible hole to climb out of and that was when we had a very powerful O.
AuGrad2004 100
If our offense was scoring like it did the last 2 years people would be talking about how great Muschamp is because the only loss may be @ LSU if there was any losses. 39.5 PPG in 2013 35.5 PPG in 2014
NewDay22 0
xcellent points here....and yes, I think we see different results if our O produces anything in the first quarter...what did we have like 20 yards or something really low? from the opposing O coordinators thought process he had to be sitting there thinking man I can do whatever, these guys are just not going to challenge me/us at all..... maybe the glass is half full!!! :-\ :-\ :-\
gravejd 3,046
We had about 17 yards in the first half until our last drive. Defense played a heck of a game keeping us in it and getting it to overtime. D disappeared in OT for sure but until that point they balled out. Timeslider 6 269
Since some of you bring up the offense (not to sidetrack the thread) does it seem like Gus's offense almost always gets a slow start and why could that be?

weagl1 1,670
Good post. Without the dropped passes in the first half I don't think the game would have even been close. Both defenses were worn out when the overtones started. Interestingly two more dropped passes in the 4th overtime were again the difference. That is good news and bad news. The bad news is that even though we are keeping the defense off the field a lot, the defense is still struggling. We ran something like 29 consecutive offensive plays between the 2nd and 3rd quarter against Arkansas. In 2014 our drives would have taken less time. Therefore, the defense would have likely given up more points in regulation. That being said we knew all along the defense was a work in progress this year. Without Lawson and all the senior DTs we lost last year... we should have expected as much.
