Deputy Fields did nothing wrong, imo.

CBS news starts off this NON story of a cop flipping a defiant girl who refused to put away her cell phone

The teacher asked her to put it away, the girl refused

The assistant principal was called, asked the girl to comply, the girl refused.

Finally, a cop was called in, and the girl STILL refused to comply. She wouldn't get up, wouldn't put away her phone, was totally disrespectful and non responsive to requests.

I see how the MSM have already twisted this story. White cop, needlessly roughs up an innocent, peaceful black girl, and arrested her and another black girl, who was also black.

I can guess how this story will be spun here, and how various posters will fall on the topic.

I really don't care, either way. I'm just posting this now, to get it out of the way.

Carry on.

There were several intermediate steps between the cop addressing her and throwing her around like a WWE match that he skipped right over. It just wasn't necessary to resort to that level of force over some disrespect and a cell phone.

Proportionality was lacking.

Just curious.....what did he skip over? looks like all key parties are supporting him at this time, but I may not be up to speed on the facts.

Raptor already defending unnecessarily aggressive cops I see.

;)

It was necessary. Cop shouldn't have been there in the first place. Girl didn't respect the teacher, the assistant principle, and this thuggette was wasting the time of the entire class with her pointless , arrogant " It's all about me " antics.

seemed a little excessive but i saw a very short video. i don't know how long he or others tried to remove her without force. she had her leg wrapped around the desk. also couldn't hear audio. at some point when it is time to go, it is time to go.

The school should have handeled it. It's pretty pathetic that a school has to resort to getting police involved in a situation like that. Why didn't the school call the girl's legal guardian to come pick her up and take her home?

We as a society need to start handling these things, and stop letting things escalate to this level. The cops shouldn't have to do parents/teachers job. Unless the girl had a weapon, there was no need to get the police involved.

Some expect the police to do everyone else's job yet they're quick to point out what they do wrong while the people that should be doing their job don't step up and do better.

About the only other option the school / cops had was to carry her out, in her seat, and lock her in detention. Of course, that too would have been called aggressive, unnecessary and promoted a civil right's investigation all the same.

Teach the brat a lesson, get her to wake the hell up.

I heard the cop was referred as the " resource officer ", aka the 'rent - a -cop' on scene. Sounds like he's a cop sent to work at schools specifically, and wasn't " called just for this incident. He was already on campus.

Empty the classroom. Take the students to the gym or somewhere else to finish class. Then deal with the student. Take the time to find out why she is acting out rather than treating her like cattle.

Yes, make everyone else alter their lives to deal w/ 1 troublemaker. That always works out best for everyone .

( Had this been a white kid who wore a t-shirt w/ the American flag on it, during Cinco de Mayo,, or supporting the NRA, or our military, then the cop would be justified. )

I know right. I mean after all she is just a 'thugette'

So you would be fine if your daughter was treated like this?

We didn't have SROs when i was in school. My county does now. They rotate into and out of that position yearly. they are fully trained and usually fully seasoned deputies. many of them i know want it to stay on a dayshift schedule and can still work games or events on nights and weekends for OT. I know they are there to PROTECT students and keep peace. i never though of them having to remove students from a desk. i don't recall in all my years a student refusing to get up and leave a classroom so it is somewhat difficult to imagine but my principal would have ripped that girl up so quick it would have made what that cop did look gentle.

if raptor had quit before last line i would agree with him. but to answer the question my daughter would have never gotten to that point but if somehow she did i would be much more concerned with correcting her behavior than trying to persecute a cop who didn't even need to be called if she had behaved her damn self.

Why does it bother you that I used " thuggette " to describe her ? That's how she is acting.

Alex, she is someone's daughter and deserves to be treated like a human. Who know what personal demons she is dealing with. Does it suck to have to empty a classroom for one student, yes but we kind do those things for humans. Cattle get snatched up a drug around the floor.

The " resource officer " we had at our school was a lady in plain clothes, who carried some sort of badge. Never knew if she was a cop, a retired cop, or just a hired " security guard " , who dealt with trouble makers.

Don't think I ever saw a fully uniformed cop at our school.

So damn what if she was someone's daughter ? She still got what she deserved.

Being the daughter of someone doesn't give her a free pass to act as she did, to disrespect the teacher, assistant principle, the cop, adults in general like that. If she's " bummed " at the world or having a crappy day, fine., get the hell out of the class room and go home. Go to in house detention, the counselor, what ever. She doesn't have the right to demand SPECIAL attention from half the damn school and take up class time for all the others in there who may actually want to learn.

this was a teenager not a third grader. her demons could be dealt with in the principal's office. i wish we could see previous to the start of the video. i think she had to be removed, just maybe a little slower and less physical. i mean verbally threatened while trying to pry her out, instead of just yanking her so hard. never the less she could have simply stood up and walked so much more easily.
