Now folks are figuring out ways to bend over backwards to keep Garner AND get Rocker on the field...and want to fire Fountain in order to do it (ridiculous). How about we just find the best coaches...Auburn ties or not? I don't think Auburn hires are any more or less successful and sometimes can end in a needless, messy divorce.

I think the Rocker love comes less from his Auburn ties and more from back when the D under Chizik's started to fall apart and people were trying to figure out how. The only obvious change was that Rocker left, so ever since he's been crowned D-line coaching royalty in some people's minds.

I personally think Garner's issue is that the real talent he lands can't stay healthy or out of trouble. As has been said many times before. If Carl didn't get hurt, no one would be calling for Rocker's head this year.

Garner needs to develop a d end that can pass rush sooner or later...besides Carl

Ford played under a couple of people but I'm talking about now last year ok you get a pass, this year you should have somebody that can at the least occasionally get a pass rush

Gotcha. I can agree with that.

And what are these "needless, messy" divorces you speak of? Sunny Golloway wasn't an Auburn guy and doesn't coach football.

James (Benedict) Willis ring a bell? (I really hate even typing that name)

Myself and a few other guys on another board worked up a hypothetical final list (never accurate) and came out with a point total that consistently represents the #8-#9 ranking over the past 4-5 years. Just depends on how we finish.

We're recruiting heavily on the DL (~32% of our entire class) and we've missed some of the higher ranked lineman. So we'll be allotting slots along that line and there are only so many highly ranked recruits that you can plug in which diminishes our potential there. Muschamp's staff, in my opinion (some disagree with me on this) are prioritizing guys with a hard nosed mentality.

Jonesy, any chance you would link that list here and do you see us gaining ground on some DT's and DE's we had higher now that some coaching instability is hitting other programs with all the open and potentially open jobs. Kind of like what happened apparently with Character.

On Rocker, he's actually a quality recruiter. He considers it going begging in a way which he does not like.

And not a team player from his days with Chiz

I tried to tell everybody what rocker was really like when Gabe came out but nobody would listen. People had to run with the not good and don't like recruiting stuff

#2 5 star RB Walker. Says AU could be in the mix

Michigan lock.

I would be more than happy for him to take his talents to Michigan. I am tired of big running backs trucking over Auburn's defense.

cough cough - need LB's - cough, cough

If you don't count Buck's as LBs the plan is 2 LBs. If you count Bucks with LBs then the number is 4.

I promise I'm not on Mikey's payroll, but...

You who are not on Mikey's payroll and Mikey are right. We need Linebackers. I see Elitor says 2 LB's and 2 Bucks. I personally would like 3 LB's as 2 just replace CAS and Frost

Just to save anybody the trouble, McBryde, Williams, Williams, Toney, Davis and Mitchell will be our guys next year, assuming Holland plays Buck full time going forward (he's the only OLB listed on the roster). Mitchell is a junior this year and the rest are sophomores or younger. Of those guys, Tre Williams is the only one with any meaningful reps as far as I know.

Not offering an opinion, just did a little homework after reading the last few comments and thought I'd share my results if it saves anybody some time.

If you don't count Buck's as LBs the plan is 2 LBs. If you count Bucks with LOVs then the number is 4.

Every year we hear of plans and every year we learn that those plans are extremely flexible. We will take Thweat plus two more true linebackers if we can get the quality.

Buck is a matter for another discussion.

Addressing McLoofus's accurate numbers. The numbers are there, the ability apparently is not. Toney, Davis, Mitchell have been here long enough that if they were going to be part of the solution we'd probably have already seen some sign of it. We need to sign guys that will send some of those currently on the roster scuttling off to Jax State.

We'll miss Garrett. Cass being moved, then graduating and Frost graduating needs no discussion. We need to sign three top linebacker prospects and four wouldn't hurt a thing. It's a position where disappointment is more the norm than the exception. Look at the teams with a top linebacker corps. Do they sign two a year? Absolutely not. They sign three/four/five a year knowing full well that at least half won't cut it. Our coaches are smart enough to recognize that fact.

Right and any remaining linebackers that don't make the cut usually make for good special teams players. We need to sign several every year.

Thank you Captain Obvious. I was not saying or implying otherwise. Everyone knows by now all plans are subject to change. I was just posting the current plan for reference purposes.
