AURaptor 1,137
Not DO you run,but CAN you ? No, not a marathon or even a 5k, but for your average every day Joe or Jane person out there, do you have the physical ability to break into more than a face paced walk or a quick shuffle, in a crisis situation ? Post Christmas time t.v. viewing, and there's a recap on nat-geo or some such science channel, about the recent disasters , namely the Christmas day quake in the Indian Ocean, back in '04. Video after video shows the tsunami coming ashore, and I can't help but notice many people who can't freaking run at all ! Even as death is coming at their heels, they are still stuck in mall walker mode. Sure, some of thee folks may indeed be elderly, but not everyone. ( THESE are the folks you want to walk in the woods with, so that when a bear comes at the two of you, it's clear the other person will get caught first.) Or maybe you ARE the other person. Also, there was a couple who sought shelter INSIDE a hotel, but they didn't go up any stairs. That's the first thing I'd have tried to do , is get UP, not just in. Sure enough, the walls crashed down, and swept the two of them out. The husband ended up in the open ocean, having been carried out, and survived. Dunno about the wife. Didn't watch long enough to hear her fate, but it sure sounded like she didn't make it. Same thing for the tsunami in Japan, in '11. Not at the coast, which was truly destructive, but further inland, where the water wasn't AS deep, but still comin in strong. There are videos of folks just waking fast, not able to get up and start hauling ass... with both feet up off the ground. Sure enough, they scurried about in shuffle mode, and get caught by the water. Had they been able to run for 100 or even just 50 yards, they'd have made it to safety. And again, same thing w / the collapse of the WTC. Watch those videos, and women are still wearing their heels, not thinking to just kick them off and start hauling... even if it's a few blocks. FHeal 4
Perhaps there's more going on here than meets the eye. Flight or fight response immediately come to mind. It's pretty intrinsic (primal) and chemical or hormonal in nature, for many it's a hardwired response. There's also instances or situations where social issues, such locating or maintaining familial structures could slow you down. Or you're prone to gathering in numbers as you've always done, because someone will tell you what to do (and suddenly where is everyone now)? This one might also involve a bit of misery loves company or a strength in numbers. Some may even freeze in response, so they neither flee or fight. It can be a defense mechanism as well as just thinking slow. And like you mentioned these may just be those who are slow, aged, feeble, or infirmed .... so perhaps by time lapse the visual reporting is of what's left.... for the rest have already gone on. (Because the speedy didn't stop to film or take selfies). And... Yes, I can still try to out run you. Texan4Auburn 1,626
Maybe they didn't want to be considered homosexuals. Since people such as yourself will call someone that runs and takes care of their health one lol. Also has to do with the fact that some people literally have not run in a decade. So while muscle memory is there the body no longer responds bio-mechanically like it use to because it is incapable of doing so. Go to a gym or track and watch people that are using intervals to get back into running. You can see how limited and inefficient their stride is and how tight they look. I still do 100's and 200's and stairs. Will also do 2 min walk, 1 min sprint sessions on the treadmill. I doubt anything will ever get me to run suicides again though. AURaptor 1,137
I'd think you have better things to do than to make false claims as well. Not too busy for that though, huh? That is indeed the forum rules. Time to put up T4A or be relegated to one of "those guys."And yes, I can still run and do so several times a week. Mainly 45 minutes to 1 hour with intervals of varying speed. Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/149334-can-you-still-run/#findComment-2410377 Share on other sites
