What will the impact of hiring Kevin Steele on recruiting?

Assuming he keeps Garner and Thompson shouldn't help or hurt much this year. I doubt if he was directly involved with many of the players we were trying to recruit as he probably concentrated more on Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas players as that is where LSU does a lot of recruiting because of geography.

If there is any effect it will be a positive effect. His presence will not hurt at all and will probably help with a few recruits.

SEC Country reached out to Auburn commits and targets for their reaction of the news.

Marlon Character, three-star safety, Atlanta, Ga., Committed: “Great pickup for them. Great coach as well. I look forward to meeting him.”

Markail Benton, four-star linebacker, Phenix City, Ala., Undecided: “I think he will fit right in at Auburn. I’ve talked to him a couple of times while he was at Alabama as the linebackers coach and while he was the defensive coordinator at LSU.”

Antwuan Jackson, four-star defensive tackle, Ellenwood, Ga., Committed: “I can’t wait to meet him and to get ready for next year’s season.”

David Marshall, three-star defensive end, Thomaston, Ga., Committed: “I don’t know anything about him. I’ll have to meet him.”

Chandler Wooten, three-star outside linebacker, Kennesaw, Ga., Undecided: “I think that is a great move. I know he’s a good coach and that might open many recruits’ eyes.”

Tray Bishop, four-star athlete, Dawson, Ga., Undecided: “That should be a good move for the Tigers. Maybe some things can change now.”

Recruits seem ok with it. Not necessarily excited, but not disappointed either. It's a little weird that the number 1 recruit in the country visited LSU and the DC only met him and his mom but never actually had a conversation with them. You would think that would be kind of a big deal :dunno:

Yea I found that odd also.

Momma's hard to please

I don't think it really changes things with Ben Davis, but it can't hurt:

I'm told Ben and his dad are pretty close to Steele.

Also will start a thread on a LB that Steele could get AU back in the picture with.

Don't think it helps or hurts us very much unless Coach Steele were to start making a lot of changes to our Defensive staff.

We must do everything we can to keep Coach Thompson on board and of course Coach Garner.

Thompson is gone...but I'm interested in seeing what Clemson's 4-3 does against uat. That defense is nasty with those four big boys frothing at the mouth. We need a stellar middle linebacker like Boulware.
