At 6'1" 210 he seems little small to be a linebacker are we looking at him as a linebacker or as a safety.

Linebacker! We need guys that can run. Look at what Garrett got done this year. If he plays at 215 in college, that's plenty big enough. Last year we signed Atkinson and he's worked at LB all season. He's listed at 183 in the program's roster page.

Thanks Mikey. I knew that in the past we used to love smaller faster Linebackers I just thought that recently we were trying to get more of the bigger type linebackers.

Small linebackers suck if they can't get off tackles. But if he's 210 now he'll be playing around 220-225 in college and that's a great size

Quote:Small linebackers suck if they can't get off tackles." All linebackers that can't get off tackles suck.

When we had very good linebackers, we were signing safeties and making them into linebackers. These days we're signing LB's and trying to make them into DB's. Go figger.

Yeah way back then it was awesome. Now a days good defenses uses big and fast linebackers. And what linebacker we tried making into a db?

Either way you don't have to sign a guy at 230 to have them play at 230. You can tell by a kids frame if they can add weight or not. And smaller linebackers tend to have more trouble shedding tackles and sustaining position.

That's a ridiculous over generalization. Does Clemson have a good defense? Their starting SLB weighs 210 pounds. His back up was a safety in high school. If a guy can play, a guy can play.

Colbert and Atkinson, in just this past year. Garrett, a couple of years ago, briefly, before we learned that Frost and Cass were going to play linebacker like, well, Frost and Cass so Garrett would be needed at LB.

Colbert played safety in high school. Was listed as a safety. Played it in the all star games...Why is he all of a sudden a linebacker? But I get what you're saying, I'm just saying if we had gotten a guy like Reggie ragland that'd be pretty good too. I think 210 is good size personally

Gtho ridiculous how? You act as if I said you have to be big to be good. I said most good defenses now are big and fast. Then you pull the one linebacker off a defense that just became good...what about their BEST linebacker that's 245? Or what about the guy that was better than him that was drafted in the NFL that's 240? Or look at how their roster linebackers average around 225. Mention how their strong safety is a guy we wanted to make a linebacker....But you pull your one guy and want to talk down on somebody else opinion as if you're the guru lol.

Look at teams that's known for usually having a good defense and tell me the size of their linebackers the past few years. Tell me fla st, LSU, uga....Not arguing dumb stuff if a guy can play small fine ask any coach if he'd rather have big and fast he'll take that. Also like I said 210 isn't small coming in look at Florida's Davis, Vanderbilt's Cunningham, and miss st Brown and look at their size now and they were all around 210 leaving high school.

Lastly in the NBA smaller guys can operate in it and be great.....good luck finding a Steph curry or Allen Iverson though...it sure would benefit being 6'7" as opposed to 6'...I guess you'd be the guy saying curry and Iverson as if anybody can do it and not mentioning how you have to pair them with big versatile guards to balance mismatches and whatnot out....you'd just scream ridiculous! Bogues played at 5'3"! Height doesn't mean anything while crying about your team getting out rebounded....

If anything I'm saying big and small can play and run but just small can move....

He's not all of a sudden a linebacker. Just go to the top of the recruiting page and look at the "2015 signees" thread. Colbert is listed as OLB/S. He played primarily LB in high school, was tried at safety in the all-star practices. Auburn recruited him for something like the Star position, which is why the /S was added.

He actually didn't stay at any spot too long to say he was primary anywhere I'm just saying everybody knew before he came on campus he was going to play safety, he didn't get there and then move to a different position after playing another

"everybody knew before he came on campus he was going to play safety

Maybe they did, maybe not. In any case, Colbert and Atkinson played LB in high school and were moved to DB when they got to Auburn. Which was my initial point. We should be going the other way, speeding up, not slowing down.

Miami and Auburn won a lot of games by having high school linebackers at DL and safeties at LB. These days with the spread, hurry up offenses that should work even better.

Again i agree with you Mikey, however, those teams at Miami and Auburn really developed those players into those positions. I'm not sure we could expect that from this coaching staff

No it's not maybe, maybe not coaches and he said safety. Now regardless of how the great Mikey feel it'll be stupid for you to try the they said it but they didn't really mean it angle. Also your point is still void since the two examples you tried redshirted haven't even played....so you can't say we sped up or slowed down and played better. Well actually you can if you look at how we made safeties out of corners and our fastest hb but then that would go against we got faster and better, so I guess it's whatever. I guess you have your opinion and I have mine. I personally don't want to see 3 200lb linebackers starting on our defense but I guess that's just me

And linebackers at d line? Good luck with that. Besides maybe a guy becoming a pass rush d end....doubt that works too well

1) It doesn't matter what "they" said. Those kids player LB in high school, are at DB at Auburn. Check the roster.

2) Atkinson did not redshirt, He played on special teams in almost every, if not every game.

3) Good evening.

I don't care if he was a punter in high school before he came on campus both he and muschamp said he'd play safety. Then once he got here he played safety Regardless of what you say, your voice doesn't matter. He knew where he was playing.

As far as Atkinson that's moot, there still was no point made.

I think that it's a little silly to worry about his weight considering he will put on at least 20 pounds.

I am concerned about JF3's wait but that is another discussion

I am sorry I asked if he was a little small to be a LB after the ruckus it caused. I just though earlier this year I thought somebody said that in the 4-3 we were looking for bigger linebackers.
