"LSU is hiring Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Aranda to the same position, according to a source. Aranda... https://t.co/FHJMmdz6eU"

EXCELLENT hire by Les, and fast too.

Really good get for LSU.

Thought LeS was on the hot seat and nobody wanted a job there. ? However they did it....a good replacement for Steele

And Les went outside the SEC to get it done. On paper, a nice pickup.

i actually like Aranda better. I suspect Gus wanted an SEC guy and Les is a Big Ten product anyway.

I think it has more to do with wanting a proven recruiter in this league and region. That's an unknown with Aranda. Miles already has recruiters like Orgeron. We just lost Muschamp and T-Rob (and now LT) so recruiting had to be a bigger factor for us.

Haha. They just upgraded.

But he doesn't have any connections to the south.

Haha

I agree with you, don't quite understand the "connections" necessity that some claim is vital. "I'm Dave Aranda and I want you to come play defense for me at LSU" should at least peak their interest....

So, do you maybe think that Gus wanted guys that heave learned from Saban and could potentially help his offense to learn the defense that he has to beat to be considered a winner. Muschamp was under Saban, Lance Thompson was under Saban, Steele was under Saban - maybe Gus wants to try and develop a defense like Saban has done and wants to use that to help his offense. A strong Malzahn offense (like 2009, 2010, 2013) with a strong saban-like defense who be a hard team to beat.

Yes. Very strange how KS supposedly bolts because of insecurities with the AD and how they feel about Miles and the D staff. Then boom, 2 days later they hire one of the top DC's in the country. Almost makes you believe that they gave Aranda some "good feelings" that they weren't giving KS, as in perhaps they weren't making KS feel that welcome for a reason and they did what it took to make Aranda feel very secure in coming to LSU.

Something doesn't add up, lol.

But we have Craig and Gardner

If they gave him the same deal as KS, Aranda doubles his salary-- little risk for him.

The LSU fans I know are really glad to hear about Aranda coming to Baton Rouge. They aren't worried about the recruiting angle. LSU will return a lot of talent on defense next year and LSU remains strong recruiting Louisiana and the Gulf Coast of Alabama and Florida panhandle. That won't change. Aranda is a great hire for them.

As for Steele, they were happy to see him leaving even before they knew who Les would hire. They considered Steele a liability. Glad to get rid of him. They were thinking that Les Miles was pushing Steele out the door.
