I am not saying i agree at all with the article. The definition of who these folks are is just not defined well.

To me, this says a lot about the cohesion on the Democrat side. Are we seeing the return of the Reagan Democrat?

If we are, nothing is going to stop Trump and THAT SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME.

Between HRC, DT or TC: I pick HRC, with all her many faults.

If Rubio cant come on, this could be the saddest choice come election time.

The Reps now have the Senate, the House, and are lining up to take the WH.

One party in charge of all three is always a bad thing. We arent even discussing the 900 plus gains in state legislatures and governorships.

I take everything published by the NYT about the republican party with a grain of salt. Their effort here is embarrass any educated person who could "inconceivably" actually support a trump candidacy and a lot of weak kneed republicans fall for it.

This is the reason the republican party is on the verge of collapsing. After all that orchestrated controversy about Trump running 3rd party if he doesn't win the republican nomination, now the same establishment hacks are saying they'll vote for Hillary if Trump is the nominee. These people are scared to death of Trump because he will not be a pawn of the republican donor class. That would put an end to the gravy train all those useless tools have been on for years.

Im not necessarily a Trumpkin but I will tell anyone this......I would vote for a homeless schizophrenic EVERY TIME before I would vote for the most unethical money grubbing proven liar like Hillary Clinton.

I rarely agree with the NYT, but if that's their aim I applaud it. They should be embarrassed.

They're scared of Trump because he's a complete wacko that should never have access to nuclear launch codes.

Well I see Hillary can count on yor vote should Trump win the nomination. :hellyeah: Amazes me how little integrity so many so called republicans seem to have. They dont get their preferred candidate so they vote for the opposition who happens to be one of the biggest scumbag crooks ever involved in american politics.

I am not a Trump supporter but would vote for him over H. As for some of you calling him names, etc...look if you haven't figured him out yet, I don't know what to tell you but he says what ever he thinks at the time. His fiscal plan for the country is probably one of the best out there. Does he need foreign policy help? Yep but so does everyone running....don't say H has a better policy as we have seen that played out and some fine men were killed. I think Trump is riling up folks who see both parties at the end of the string for those who have been donating to them over the years and policy is being made to help them out even by the dems...we need new blood making sensible laws and not by those who contribute the most or the K street folks...that has gotten us no where but lined their pockets plenty...especially when the government picks winners and losers

This isn't about getting my preferred candidate. I would vote for at least 5 or 6 other candidates in the GOP field, possibly more. It's about getting a candidate that isn't a moral void, a black hole of insipid pandering and a threat to do something monstrously stupid and shanghai us all into WWIII.

If the choices are Trump and Hillary, I'll abstain or vote third party as a protest. I'm not having a vote for that idiot on my conscience.

oh but but but Trump didn't know what the nuclear triad was. LOL Trump is playing the media like a stradivarius. People who dont like him love to portray him as stupid but he is controlling the daily news cycle and consequently getting tremendous exposure for FREE. Menawhile Jeb has spent $millions and $millions only to see his appeal drop to the point where he really needs to go home and for get it. Its the pro business under budget approach versus the big govt inefficient approach. Pick one.

Well making it about the taking the high road are ya? Im just glad Obama and Bush never did anything that would rustle your jimmies. Wouldn't want you have that on your conscience. You really dont even get it. I may be mistaken but aren't you a govt employee? I really wouldn't expect you to be able to see what Trump is doing but I tell you one thing, A lot of people in america are so freakin fed up with the establishment that you prefer dont be too upset when he wins because Obama and the repub establishment have made Trump. That is a fact

I love this statement because we who live in FL already know what they are made of...primarily folks who support wholesale amnesty and wholesale outsourcing of good IT jobs to H1B folks like Disney did here in the state...they say they aren't for these things now but they were all in the news down here stating this stuff before they decided to get in the election...

Mr. Trump fares well in Florida despite the political histories of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio in the state.

He is all about getting free publicity and saves money for his campaign...he knows what he is doing and isn't a stupid fella but is playing folks on all sides...the establishment is worried about him why else down grade him as a legit candidate...if they wouldn't sensationalize what he says especially in the debates it wouldn't play out so well into his hands as he likes it but since they do and they don't know how to handle him they keep him always in the news cycle

Don't tell me what I get or don't get. You're clueless.

There is no perfect candidate. I get that. Not even my preferred candidate takes the position I would on every issue. But some candidates are so transparently saying whatever a blind group wants to hear, so obviously feeding the basest of our human instincts, and so utterly devoid of anything reflecting a complex thought on important matters that it goes beyond merely being a "nobody's perfect" kind of voting decision. This is one of those times.

Yeah, Im clueless just like the 15,000 people listening to him in Biloxi right now. I dont know how old you are and dont care but everything you say is the EXACT same thing weak kneed spineless republicans and the establishment pundit class said about Ronald Reagan. They too were so worried about an outsider diminishing their stranglehold on the party. Trump is no Reagan but insofar as doing something stupid...he's far less of a war hawk than Hillary and thats a fact.

I am not a Trump fan nor supporter but the media does seem to treat him in a similar fashion to Reagan when he was campaigning. I remember some of the press comparing the actor Reagan to the chimp co-star. If you go overboard you sometimes get the opposite results of your intentions.

Yeah, Im clueless just like the 15,000 people listening to him in Biloxi right now.

You're clueless about me. So you should refrain from your pop psychology nonsense in trying to assess me.

But yes, the 15k people in Biloxi are clueless.

I dont know how old you are and dont care but everything you say is the EXACT same thing weak kneed spineless republicans and the establishment pundit class said about Ronald Reagan.

Old enough to vividly remember Reagan as our President, someone our family was firmly in support of.

It's an insult to Reagan and to basic intelligence to put Trump even in the same galaxy as Reagan.

They too were so worried about an outsider diminishing their stranglehold on the party. Trump is no Reagan but insofar as doing something stupid...he's far less of a war hawk than Hillary and thats a fact.

Trump isn't just "no Reagan." His name shouldn't even be permitted to be said in the same breath as the words "Ronald Reagan."

And "better than Hillary" isn't exactly a selling point. It's like saying that blowing your brains out is better than eating poison.

Agree. Not a good place to be. Honestly I was not sold on Ronnie back in the day when he was running for office but his results were pretty good. His results are overstated or at least many of the negatives are overlooked by his supporters. If Trump wins I hope he is half of what Ronnie was, that would be a win for our country. I will never support Hillary.

He won't be.

Reagan was sane. Trump is unhinged.

Reagan had core principles. Trump has changed virtually every major position to pander to voters.

Reagan loved the country. Trump loves himself.

You could be correct. I could replace trumps name with Hillary's in each of your statements and feel like it was even more accurate.

I'd say the last two you could. Not sure the first one is true.

But I'm still not of the mind to cast votes based one whether one is perhaps one micron less crazy and evil than the other.

Not to change the discussion as it is, BUT...

The really funny thing is that now the NYT is actually pointing out and the US is accepting that there is a large constituency in the Dem Base that doesnt support anything the Dems really stand for. In the deep south we call them Yellow Dogs. And one pol i produced a website for said the YDs made up at least 50% of the Alabama Dem Party Base.

1) The party of the ignorant and the stupid is...BOTH. Chew on that for a while all those making fun of the Rep Party as the Party of the Stupid. Truth is hits folks in the face that they both are the PotS.

2) If these people do exist, and no one is denying it so far, then I make the case that this is why The Democrats are so fractured but wont talk about it. It is the Obama Wing versus the Trumka Wing.

IF, I said IF, Trump carries these voters, that takes votes from HRC and Gives them to DT. Folks, the crazy man just might win this thing.

Never been a Trumpkin myself, but the whole idea of the great unwashed ignorant masses gets played hard and IMO gets over played. The typical american may not be abreast of every political issue and may not be in tune to every unintended consequence of what, on its face, may look like good policy but, what they are painfully aware of is simple. The american people have been awakened from their slumber and have realized fully that our elected establishment officials in the federal govt with their lobbyists and their contractors with a complicity from corporate MSM media are attempting to hijack the political process. All those people are living large inside the Beltway in Washington and are only interested in doing what benefits themselves. They are interested in the "unwashed masses" only to the extent required for them to get elected. Once in Washington MANY become part of that very cartel they ran against...like Marco Rubio who was a Tea Party challenger to Charlie Crist in Florida. he gets to Washngton and co-sponsors the Gang of Eight plan for amnesty..strictly a Washington cartel priority.

Anyone who still believes we have a two party system isn't paying close enough attention to the obvious collusion between the parties on issues that most americans are very upset about, most notably, illegal immigration. Who benefits the most from open borders? The answer is obvious, the big donors of the political class who get cheap labor. Moreover, at the rate that Obama is allowing Muslims into the country one could just about argue that he is facilitating a Muslim "invasion" of America. While it sounds silly, the topic of terror and national security are top priorities for these so called "unwashed" precisely because of Obama's complete failure to effectively address them. He would rather lecture us about not being racists..national security be damned.

People are also sick of the obsession with political correctness. In fact, its driving people to the point of supporting a typical outlier like Donald Trump. He is playing the media like a harp and using them to his benefit. Many here love to insist he is a stupid fool incapable of entertaining a complex thought which is really funny to me. He has struck a chord with the silent majority in this country with a message that resonates mostly because of its overt lack of political correctness and it is obviously maddening for the political elites and the MSM. Every single prediction of his imminent demise has been met with stronger polling numbers.

It'll be interesting to follow as this is a critical election year for the well being of the republic. Anyone who believes america is on a sustainable path economically or on the best foreign policy footing either isn't particularly concerned with whats best for the country or is simply all for its destruction. If a dramatic change of course isn't forthcoming, I suspect the latter is about what we deserve. Hell, the democrats already seem all about dismantling the constitution and its amendments...all but the 5th that is - that one they truly love!

I think people who are in the tank for Trump are being played. His history doesn't warrant their fervent belief level in him. It's as if they are completely unaware of any position he ever took on anything in the past. And he says things that they would absolutely roast anyone else (especially Hillary or Obama) for saying, but with him they let it slide. It's cognitive dissonance at its finest.

You could be onto something but I would disagree with it being labelled cognitive dissonance primarily because Trump never played the political correctness game the way those you referred to have. They would be yuuuge hypocrits if they tried what Trump is doing. Its just not his game and like it or not, its resonating with those many refer to as the unwashed. I would hope we could elect a better candidate but so far seems his campaign is the only one that seems invincible. I will say that I will vote for him before I will Clinton or a 3rd party because the 3rd party route only guarantees a Clinton win. Some things are worse than Trump and while i agree its not especially comforting to say he's better than Clinton, of that, even with all his warts..I am certain, he is.

But that's the thing. He's a total flip-flopper on tons of big issues he's "resonating" with people on now. It comes off as a calculated move to channel anger to his own aims than any sort of genuine core principle.

And can you imagine anyone else (especially a Democrat) getting anything but total acidic derision from the Trump supporting crowd over that comment saying he feels like he has military experience because he attended a privileged boarding school?

I think he's actually more dangerous than her and I think she's a god-awful candidate. I think he utterly lacks the discernment, temperament and maturity to have anything close to the authority he'd be given. I will vote third party or abstain if those are my choices.
