Being inducted into Softball Hall of Fame....a great piece during the halftime of the women's basketball game on SECN ....it's worth your effort to track it down and watch it.

A greatly respected gentleman and AU is really fortunate to have him as a part of the Auburn Family.

They have aired that piece during halftime of several basketball games already. He was inducted a month or two ago. I agree, its a great piece to watch and get a greater appreciation for the type of person we have leading that softball program. It couldn't be in better hands.

I'm sure any game on SEC Network+ that people watch over the next couple of weeks will probably have that segment at halftime.

His coaching has given our program a lot of respect. Very impressive what he has accomplished. Although not previously a softball fan, my wife and I attended a few games his first year and really enjoyed seeing the high level of play on display by AU and their opponents. We drove down for a few games last year and hope to do the same for some of the early season stuff this year. Starts next month. Should have even stronger pitching this year.

You don't have to "know" softball to see and appreciate what he and his staff/family have done for Auburn softball. The turnaround that they have headed here could have only been accomplished by a handful of coaches in the country, and I dont believe any could have done it faster. Auburn softball, though competitive at times over the years, has never reached that elite level. Softball at an elite level is just plain fun to watch, and Coach Myers and team have a chance to maintain that elite level of play.

With recruiting and coaching picking up to match the top teams in the country, softball at AU should be exciting for many more fans for a while to come.

  • 4 weeks later...

I went back and looked at the 3 seasons at Arizona State prior to the arrival of Coach Myers 2003-2005. Their long time coach Linda Wells had a record during those 3 seasons of 95 wins and 82 losses. They had been to the WCWS 2 times in the previous 16 seasons. After the arrival of Coach Myers in 2006, the record over the next 3 seasons was 173W and 37 and three straight appearances in the WCWS. The two seasons prior to his arrival at AU the record was a combined 63W/43L. In his first 2 seasons at AU, the record is 98-28-1. Hard to fathom how far this program has progressed in such a short time. He has clearly changed the performance, culture and fan enthusiasm at AU. A number of our players now enjoy "celebrity status" and well deserved recognition. Great what Coach and his staff have accomplished.

I know we have a couple of his sons coaching as well, but how are they at coaching? Could they pick up when he leaves or retires and keep it going?

Yes, we have Casey and Corey Myers on the staff. Corey is the pitching coach, and Casey was the hitting coach as a volunteer. Recently, it was announced that Casey was leaving Auburn for a position with the San Diego Padres organization.

I still haven't heard who will be taking over as hitting coach, and it will be interesting to see how the team continues to progress at the plate without Casey.

As far as if either/or could or would take over after Coach retires, it is hard to say.
