Just announced that she was selected as a member of 2016 USA Womens National Softball Team. I believe this is a first for AU.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - For the first time in Auburn softball history, the Orange and Blue will have a presence on the international scene in 2016 as USA Softball announced Friday that current Auburn junior Kasey Cooper earned a spot on the USA Women's National Team.

"I'm still freaking out about it, but it is such an honor," Cooper said. "I'm at a loss for words. After working hard all my life and finally getting the chance to chase my dreams, you kind've don't know what to do. It's been great. I've had family and friends texting me and emailing me. Teammates and coaches are telling me congratulations, but I credit most of this success to them. It's not only an honor for me, but for my team, Auburn and my community as a whole."

The selection comes on the heels of the recently completed USA Selection Camp in Irvine, Calif., where 40 athletes were evaluated by the Women's National Team Selection Committee. Two 18-player teams were chosen to represent the United States this summer, with the Women's National Team set to travel to the World Cup of Softball XI, the XV World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women's World Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada and the Japan Cup.

Cooper is coming off her second-straight All-American season where she hit .391 with 75 hits, 64 RBI and tied for second on the team with 18 home runs. The Dothan, Ala.-native became the first Auburn player to be named an All-American in her first two collegiate seasons and was also named a CoSIDA Academic All-American last season as well.

Over her two seasons as a Tiger, Cooper has hit a combined .404 through 126 games with 149 hits, 36 RBI and 141 RBI. The home run and RBI totals already rank in the top-six all-time in the Auburn career record charts.

The Auburn Tigers recently kicked off practice for their 2016 campaign Friday morning. Auburn will be going through its "spring training" workouts over the next five days before classes begin on Wednesday. The 2016 season opener is scheduled for Feb. 11 against Appalachian State. That game's first pitch will be at 6 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field.
