Harbaugh wants to have spring practice in Florida.

Great idea... Let's pull our "student" athletes away from school so we can get more buzz in the better recruiting area of the country.

Shoot ...If I had a choice between having spring practice in Michigan or Florida....I sure would take Florida. Maybe he can set up one of those "semester abroad" plans...and claim that Florida is some foreign country.

get em outta the south . . . but .... i'm sure he is thinking - "well hell, Urban has roots there and is still (i'm assuming) getting floridians who seem to be very talented to come to Ohio State, i've got to have a stronger presence there."

That crazy state may as well be one

How much more presence does he want down here? He held multiple summer camps down here right in our own backyard in the summer. He got tons of media exposure and publicity for weeks leading up to his Prattville camp. Yet the SEC won't allow our SEC coaches to participate in offseason football camps? WTH?

So now he wants to take the kids out of class and haul them down to FLA for Spring camp in the middle of a school session? AND he wants unlimited access to work summer camps down here too? WTH?

Agreed. But evidently our conference has an SEC sized arrogance and think we shouldn't have to run those gimmicky camps and what not.

Well he's running them so as to help him develop a presence in this part of the country and help in recruiting. We could do the same thing in that part of the country but there's no need for it.

Yeah, but if allowed you don't think it would be beneficial for AU coaches to gain exposure and one on one face time with recruits in Florida/Texas/Georgia? AU would have an even larger presence in those talent rich states if the conference allowed our coaches to conduct summer camps. :dunno:

Auburn already has a big presence in Florida and Georgia. Not sure how beneficial going to Texas would be.

Haven't y'all heard? The University of Michigan is relocating their main campus from Ann Arbor to Orlando.

Even if they did they would still be smaller than UCF in student population...

It will be beneficial even if it's just beneficial by the slimmest of margins. What could it hurt?

Am I missing something, or are most universities actually in session during the spring? Does UM not have a spring semester?

I have no idea how this would work, except for a few practices during spring break, if allowed.

It's called placing football ahead of education. Just like how Johnny Manziel was able to take his classes remotely at A&M.

^ Any and all students are allowed to take any of the myriad of online classes that these universities offer. Manziel opted to take those because he couldn't step foot on campus without having a swarm of fans on his butt. I understand your overall point with football > academics in this Harbaugh BS but I think your example wasn't the best one to use. I understand not liking Manziel but I don't think him taking online classes was a big deal.

I've got nothing against it as such but perhaps your time and effort could be better utilized some other way.

Whether it is available to everyone else or not, it was a prima donna move on Manziel and the program's part, especially when Cam was coming back to campus, at the same time, after already moving on to the NFL, and taking regular classes with everyone else. You definitely never read about any other star players taking remote classes because they are worried that their fame will be a distraction. I firmly believe that A&M is now reaping what they sowed with the way they handled that situation.

Eh I still don't see it as a big deal. He didn't like the attention, and the program knew the kid was a walking time bomb so just eliminating him from being in public too much was fine by me...similar to AU shutting down all of Cam's media availability after the pay for play BS because Cam wasn't particularly polished in front of a camera and mic at that stage in his life. Either way we can agree to disagree I don't really care about Manziel or his class structure we just see it differently. :hellyeah:

It wouldn't hurt a thing. In fact, it would allow Gus and his staff more "face time" with the high school talent. And perhaps they could get a little better at evaluating that talent. Because we either lack in talent evaluation, or we lack in development right now, so it couldn't hurt.

Just from JFF's actions, I think he liked the attention. But someone knew he was a walking time bomb so they chose to limit his public exposure to the general student population that's probably twice the size of AU's. He exposed himself with his off the field antics, partying, concerts, NBA Finals, etc. with his "Uncle Nate" right by his side to help him with his rockstar image. JFF LOVED the attention no doubt.

Which led to their next QB getting a huge head after a handful of good outings and then crashing and burning, and their next 2 QBs after that having unrealistic expectations of how they would be treated... leaving them with a practically empty cupboard and probably the hottest seat in the SEC.

Perfect cautionary tail about how egos in college football need to be reigned in, not encouraged or even allowed to fester.
