I agree, but for some of you are here illegally nothing else matters. I thought this was a great example of how understanding the whole story and all circumstances can be valuable. One size doesn't fit all.

It does when you apply for it. Has happened for years. But as the article states: "But it doesn't happen automatically. And veterans who did not go through the process of becoming citizens — they can be deported, if they get in trouble later on, just like any other noncitizen."

​So the old adage is follow the rules and you can get a green card. I appreciate the guy serving but officially lying when you are illegal will get you in trouble with the military.

Well if the government can take the trouble to deport him, they can certainly walk him through the green card process. This is no way to treat a veteran.
