I didn't sit on either jury but I have a hard time thinking this officer wasn't out of line from the video I've seen.

*sigh*

I don't expect officers to be mind readers or have x-ray vision. But I do expect them to use good judgment on the amount of force that is appropriate. We grant them a tremendous amount of trust and authority under the understand and belief that they will use that power wisely and that their judgment will be much better than the average person.

I wish jurors would get rid of the idea that wearing a badge absolves one of having to think.

I predicted this. The prosecution should have offered a deal that took any type of incarceration out of question and guaranteed he could not work in LE again. This a**hole will be a cop again in a year or two.

He was out of line and he lost his job. It was a terrible decision and he's looking for work because of it. If he ends being a police officer somewhere else and acts badly again the responsibility for that will be on those who hire him.

He will be RECRUITED as a cop again in a year or so. There are a lot of towns in the South where this guy could not only be a cop, but a minor celebrity.

You serious Clark? Mind letting us know which towns that would be? Everyone is not suited to be a police officer because of the stress attendant to the job requirements. This guy doesn't seem fit for the job and Im not so sure in this day and age of ubiquitous media coverage of every bad move made by the police anyone will be that quick to roll the dice on this guy.

Some Joe Blow security guard would be in jail for such an egregious and excessive use of force and lack of judgment.

And? I must ask,, I am curious where you get your hypothetical future court room results from..you got a hypothetical crystal ball?

i doubt that. But the story will fade out and he will apply. His resume will look grand and hr hiring process laws and policies will prevent future departments from adding it all up. The thirst for blood to win the publicity battle overshadowed logic and the bad guy slipped through potentially endangering others.

I am amazed by the number of folks in here who see so clearly into the future. I imagine that's a big asset when playing power ball numbers. :hellyeah:

You can be snarky is you want, but I think you know that police are getting to play by a different set of standards than the rest of us.

There seems to be a widening gulf of understanding between cops and citizens as to what one exactly expects from the other.
