Though Trump and Cruz have been jabbing each other on several issues for days, the Texas senator launched the first volley on this line of attack when he criticized Donald Trump for embodying "New York values" in an interview on a New Hampshire radio show. He repeated the attack throughout the week on Fox News and on the stage of the sixth Republican presidential debate Thursday night hosted by the Fox Business Network.

During Thursday night's debate, Trump delivered a withering rebuke to Cruz's attack, praising New York City's resilience after 9/11.

"I saw something that no place on earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York," Trump said. "The people of New York fought and fought and fought. We saw more death and even the smell of death and it was with us for months."

"We rebuilt downtown Manhattan and everybody in the world watched and everybody in the world loved New York and loved New Yorkers," he continued. "And I have to tell you, that was a very insulting statement that Ted made."

Cruz defended his comments at the debate saying that the American people understood what he meant.

"I think most people know exactly what New York values are: socially liberal, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, focused on money and the media," he said.

Cruz must have forgotten that his wife is an managing director at Goldman Sachs, based in Manhattan. The same Goldman Sachs that quietly loaned him over $1 million to keep his campaign afloat (which he didn't report to the FEC for two years).

Well, everyone who knows anything about NY politics knows what Ted Cruz was referring to. NY is a decidedly liberal democrat town. Their Mayor is situated politically to the left of Obama and doesn't disavow his communist inclinations. Its a big pro choice town, with a huge gun control constituency. Additionally, Michael Bloomberg is one of the biggest nanny state liberals in the entire country. So, it probably wasn't Cruz's finest moment simply because Trump was able to spin it around into something altogether different than what Cruz was actually talking about.

The interesting element of this is that Trump had never debated before this run for President. Cruz has been arguing dozens and dozens of cases before the Supreme Court but Trump out smarted him. Trump continues to prove his critics wrong. He may mangle the Queen's English and his decorum may be salty at times but the guy is not stupid by any stretch of the imagination.

From a city that elected a communist mayor and a governor that said conservatives had no place in New York. I think Cruz is dead on.

I think you are right. Thus the backlash. Truth hurts.

That's a pretty low barrier.

Funny coming from a paper in a state that elected Hillary a senator. Compared to he Cruz is a saint.

Right. That means anything Cruz does is acceptable. Beautiful!

IPA?

I'm fond of Sierra Nevada "Torpedo" for my everyday IPA.

So much for the tea party anger about the bailouts.

Cruz is a snake, but no use trying to convince anyone.

Yeah, and no use even trying to offer up any evidence to support your claim. Just make the charge, and it's suppose to be magically believed. Because you said so ?

GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz

won a “prominent New York City straw poll” after commenting on “New York values.”

On Saturday the Resurgent posted on Twitter: “Ted Cruz Wins Prominent New York City Straw Poll AFTER Insulting ‘New York Values.'”

According to the Resurgent, The Metropolitan Republican Club in New York City held its straw poll after Cruz’s statements criticizing “New York Values,” and Cruz won first place.

I hear NY makes good pizza, because of the filtered water they use in making the dough.

Pizza sold by street vendors in NY is better than most any of the delivery pizza out fits anywhere else

If ever they get rid of their socialist mayor, I'd like to go visit NYC.

Awesome city to visit. Been there at least a half a dozen times myself.

Wow! So you agree with Trump?
