Trovon Reed signs with Seattle Seahawks

Former Auburn wide-receiver-turned cornerback Trovon Reed has signed a reserve/future contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle announced the signing on Monday, a day after the Seahawks' season ended with a 31-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.

Also signing reserve/future contracts on Monday were former Carver-Montgomery and Alabama State wide receiver Jamel Johnson with the Green Bay Packers and ex-Clay-Chalkville and UAB running back Darrin Reaves with the Kansas City Chiefs.

A player signed to a reserve/future contract can be added to an NFL team's roster when it expands from 53 to 90 players for the offseason on the first day of the NFL's 2016 calendar – March 9. The newly signed members become eligible to participate in offseason workouts, minicamps and OTAs as team members. Only players who aren't on an NFL active roster can sign reserve/future contracts.

Reed switched to cornerback from wide receiver for his senior season at Auburn. He went to training camp as an undrafted rookie with the St. Louis Rams. After being released by St. Louis at the end of the preseason, he spent time on the practice squads of the Rams, Miami Dolphins and Seahawks during the 2015 season. He'd been on the Seattle practice squad since signing on Nov. 17.
