Deadpool

So, Ryan Reynolds, reviving his role as Wade Wilson / Deadpool.

Last we saw both in the Marvel Universe, was in the Wolverine Origins movie, where the ever chatty Wilson was turned into a freakish Frankenstein type chimera of several other mutants, with his mouth sealed shut, and then eventually beheaded, and his remains in the rubble of a nuclear power plant's cooling tower, at 3 Mile Island. He was referred to then as Mutant X , by Stryker.

THIS version, however, is a pretty big departure from the prior one. Yet not entirely. They do augment Wilson w/ Wolverine powers, but apparently , there's no Stryker involved.

Still, i'm confused.

I'm not a fan of super hero related movies to really any degree(except for some of the Batman movies). The acting is usually bad and the plots are sometimes just plainly bad--Batman/Superman looks down right awful.

However, I'm probably going to watch this one. The R rating is a selling point to me, and the marketing for it has been pretty genius.

The first Avengers was awesome. So was The Dark Knight.

On this one I would just hope those involved are skilled enough to hide the fact that Ryan Reynold's acting skills aren't worth a poo-poo.

Disagree about Reynold's acting from a comedic standpoint. I think he was cast perfectly for the role based on what my co worker tells me about Deadpool.

Green Lantern was dog s*** though.

I have grown to not hate Ryan Reynolds. From what I can tell, this script is well written and delivered. He's a bigger wise arse than spiderman, and doesn't hold back on the language either.

But here's where these super-hero flicks lose me. I know OF the supers, as in I know who they are and such, but I'm not familiar w/ all their backgrounds and alternate reality stories.

Like apparently when X-Men: Days of future past came out, it seemingly set up a separate time line, where the characters are living different lives. ( How Xavier was able to come back from being obliterated and meet Wolverine at the airport, at the end of 'Wolverine - Origins ' , I still have not figured out )

It's one thing to reboot a series or line of characters, with different actors , but to basically reset the lives of the SAME characters, played by the same actors, I just need a bit more explanation. I can see Toby McGuire or Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, just like I can see any of the Batman / Supermans. But when JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek, and shifted the characters some, ( Uhura and Spock dating ? ) , that to me just seems fundamentally wrong.

Kudos for the ad concept of making this a 'date' flick. That right there has me wanting to see it.

I like him, especially in some of his funny roles like Van Wilder and Waiting. Not saying this won't be a good flick either. He can't act at all in my book, though. My guess is he is a funny guy in real life like his VW and Waiting roles, but when he tries to go outside of that it is not pretty. If he wasn't a heart throb for the ladies he wouldn't work nearly as much. He is way overexposed too, though he does keep getting role after role after role..........

Raptor - to understand it you should look at the comics time line and not just rely on the movies http://marvel.com/universe/Deadpool_(Wade_Wilson) or even here http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Deadpool_(Wade_Wilson)

I should, but I wont. I'm looking @ it from the average joe movie goers point of view, who has not read the comics / graphic novels, what have you .

I hope they get his whole "breaking the fourth wall" schtick right.

See, most folks probably aren't up to speed as to what that even means. Though I kinda have some idea... something about him bein' half crazy ? :gofig:

Breaking the fourth wall is one of my least favorite aspects of movies and television. When done correctly and doesn't take too much from the medium, it's tolerable--see Frank Underwood in House of Cards.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when it's used unnecessarily. One specific time was in Into the Wild. Mccandless was sitting on a bridge eating an apple, just talking to himself. Then it cuts to music or a montage and he interacts directly with the camera by leaning into the lens. There's no other breaking the fourth wall in the entire movie. I love that movie, but hate that scene.

Deadpool is certifiable. His inner monologue in the comics is hilarious. Not infrequent for him to argue with his own inner monologue, answer his own fan mail mid arc, address the reader directly etc.

For a self-demonstrating example, here's his TVTropes page.

Why does his suit so closely resemble Spiderman's? Maybe not so much in the movie, but some of the comic book versions are near dead ringer. Is that a " thing " ? As in, was that done on purpose ? Or are there just only so many ways a hero / villain can design a suit that before they start to look like another's ?

Luckily for me, I don't know jack about comic books and can just watch movies and enjoy them for what they are. Fake entertainment. Of course I'm a stickler for musicians changing things up to sell more albums so I get the premise. Still, having no clue who should be who or what in comics, Deadpool was great.

I knew pretty quick, the opening credits, that it was going to be a good one.

"Some Douchebag's Film"

"Produced by Asshats"

"Directed by An Overpaid Tool"

"Starring God's Perfect Idiot"

Thanks. I'll have to peek into that. I ended up buying the damn movie, it was so genius.

I'm not really a movie goer, usually wait to be able to order what I want to see. I'm going to make an exception for this. And sorry, I used the search function but couldn't find a general movie thread

Looks promising. I'm going to let a lot of people see this one first, and see how the reviews are. I hope it's good.

I finally saw Deadpool, and I loved it. The perfect role for ryan reynolds.

He's only been studying it for like 11 years or something. ;)

But I agree, it was great. I've been wanting to watch it again, but haven't found the time.

As far as Suicide Squad, I have zero interest. They had to revamp and rewrite just to keep up with Deadpool, so I can only assume the jokes and ham handedness will be awful.

I liked Deadpool. Frankly, I'm at the point of superhero saturation. But this one had a lot of humor. As did AntMan, which I had to be dragged to see, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. Again, plenty of humor.

I am too. Unfortunately, it's not slowing down. They finally got all the character origins out of the way, so more and more story arcs and crossovers are going to be thrown at us for years to come.

Nick Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher , all on Netflix, as well as the roll outs of the Justice League characters on the big screen, Suicide Squad... yeah, the Super's are here for the next decade, at least.
