A good start

Start to what ? Facebook can do as it sees fit, as it's a private company. I swear, some folks act as if Facebook is some inalienable right. I'm surprised they haven't started charging people to sign on and use it.

Not talking about you, chief. I've never seen any gun sale ads on my FB page, but I guess that speaks to who I have as 'friends'.

FB isn't even that old a site, so it's not as if this country was founded on the sale of guns through online social networking. I wonder if some folks could even imagine a world w/ out FB, or the internet ! Oh, the horrors !!!

I've seen guns being sold on Facebook through pages and groups like "North Alabama barter" or something similar. It's a very popular medium to buy weapons though.

No one said that there were not any such groups on Facebook. All I am saying is that they can freely exist online without Facebook's assistance.

I am saying that others who think that Facebook is where the Internet begins and ends, is laughable.

It's a completely false premise to believe that this in anyway curbs gun sales. I just said, Facebook has only been around for a few years and it's not like people haven't been buying guns before Facebook.

Good start? That's such a phony position to take. It's a non start.

Not a single person has argued that. That's a straw man. A lot of gun transactions have occurred via Facebook as the medium, that's what I'm saying. Nobody here has insinuated that nobody sold weapons before Facebook either lol. I'm just glad people like Mark Zuckenburg is willing to ban the selling of weapons on their website even if Facebook only leads to a small percentage of the gun sales.

So ? What effect will this have on gun deaths in Chicago?

LMAO.

Exactly ! It's absurd to think this is a good start at anything of substance

Any measure, whether private or public, that can make putting lethal weaponry in the wrong hands more difficult is a GREAT start in my book.

And the evidence that such sales on FB in any way contributed to such lethal weaponry ending up in the " wrong hands " is where ??

I'll hang up and listen.

Well if you had read the second article that was linked, you would have read that a guy was prohibited from buying firearms because of a felony, so he bought one through Facebook. He went on to kill his girlfriend, his daughter and then himself. Sounds like wrong hands to me.

And if you had bothered to post that part in the initial thread....

Licensed gun dealers and gun clubs can still maintain Facebook pages and post on Instagram.

The article also mentions San Bernardino shootings, but that wasn't a Facebook purchase. It was Militant Muslims, buying guns from a neighbor. ( Still not sure what his story was either )

Its in the OP. Really dude.

"Licensed gun dealers and gun clubs can still maintain Facebook pages and post on Instagram."

gun dealers can still promote their stores on Facebook. They just cannot buy, trade, or sell weapons via Facebook.

Perfectly legal example of a gun store promoting itself on Facebook but not fishing for online sales: https://m.facebook.com/SDSguns/?tsid=0.2680476317182183&source=typeahead

No, genius, I said you just posted a LINK. There was no substance in your OP, just a LINK. Or links, it doesn't matter. The STORY wasn't in your post, and the specifics of your point were further down in the 2nd linked story....

You DO know that posting the actual column HERE is permitted, right ?

OK! Since you're too obtuse to realize that I'm on my phone: Raptor, I'm on my phone! My use of quotation marks instead of the quotation feature should've been a dead giveaway.

And next time read the damn links all the way through. I'm not going to excerpt portions of the post for lazy bastards like yourself even if I was on my Mac. The whole article is good..

No way I could detect you were on your phone. A simple comment saying as such would have sufficed.

Well you're a moron. Go figure.

My use of quotation marks instead of the quotation feature should've been a dead giveaway.

Nope, it shouldn't It just appears as 2 links, so there's no way anyone could discern that you were posting via your phone, unless you said so.

Sounds like you need a nap.
