SEC vs Big 12 Basketball

The bilg conference match-up is under way and Florida doing a number on #9 West Va.

SEC has been taking a beating in the national media this year since UK seems to be down.

IMO, AU has a good chance against Oky State since it's a home game....hope folks turn out and make it loud.

So...how will the SEC do overall?

Doesn't it help AU's RPI if we beat teams with good records? That would be the only reason I would want an SEC team to beat OOC teams.

I couldn't care less about the rest of the teams in the conference. I want Auburn to win. The rest can lose as far as I'm concerned.

Oh gosh...not again.....I was told that we were supposed to be over any animosity toward the rest of the SEC because of the shabby way AU was treated in 2010....guess the word has not gotten around yet. :dunno:

I doubt I'll ever be "over" that because it was such a made up heaping pile of garbage. However, I've never in my life been an SEC fanboy. Even prior to 2010 and that unfounded garbage, I wasn't a rah rah guy for the SEC. 2010 solidified my stance but didn't determine it. I care only about Auburn. Like Mikey said, RPI doesn't matter much this year anyway.

I'd take 1-11 if Auburn is the 1. RPI doesn't matter, we aren't going anywhere this year anyway.

OK...let's just consider it an academic exercise......so....it.just seems that with the millions...maybe billions being spent on basketball in the SEC there should be something to show for it. Is that worth arguing?

And perhaps if the SEC is crap compared to the other Power 5 conferences....is there any reason why we should care what AU does?.....I mean, it seems like we are getting excited about Class A baseball or something.

My RPI statement was just in general. There will be years, very soon, where it matters a lot.

Just wondering though....we make a big deal in football with recruits about playing in the best league.....so if basketball in the SEC is really minor league, aside from Kentucky, what's the sales pitch to get top recruits to AU? Seems to me that it is good for AU basketball for the conference to have reputation as a tough league where our recruits will get to play against top competition to help them develop.

JMO..it's not a matter or rooting for the rest of the league....which obviously does not affect the outcome of a game anyway....but perhaps wanting the SEC to prove that the quality of its basketball is at par with any other conference. SEC not looking very "Power 5" in basketball lately.

Meanwhile the Simmons guy is the real deal at LSU.

LSU let the game get away against Oklahoma.....coaching at LSU...their best player Simmons did not even touch the ball during the last 3 possessions....The shooter Heild from Oklahoma is a real gun....hit 6 of his last 8 shots. Some good basketball....just keep dreaming that AU will get there some day soon.

I always care what AU does, even if it's class A baseball. If the others waste millions on basketball or whatever, that's good! As long as they are wasting their money and we aren't wasting ours it's a good thing.

Remember, even 2010 aside, They are the enemy!

The overall conference strength and perception nationwide affects Auburn.

National perception doesn't help my feelings nearly as much as does seeing the UGA DullDawgs lose to Baylor. Root for 'em if you want, I'll root against 'em. I give A&M and Mizzou a pass because they weren't in the SEC in 2010 but as to the group that voted Spurrier Coach of the Year and some Knoxville tennis player Male Athlete of the Year in 2010, I hope they lose 'em all. We saw what they think about Auburn, why should we think kindly of them? The SEC isn't any "brotherhood". To hell with 'em!

Do you always hold on to grudges this long? I don't like them but what happened way back then is irrelevant to me now. I still remember Auburn getting shut out of a chance to play for a national championship in part because the conference was thought to not be that great.

While it won't affect Auburn this year, in the future it could mean the difference between getting into the NCAA tournament or getting left out.

I normally don't hold grudges at all, but I few things are permanent and 2010 is one of those. Since way before 2010 I thought that any benefit to AU from UAT, UGA and the like winning something was outweighed by the downside.

When your conference is strong it helps recruiting. Good kids want to play for the best and against the best to prove how good they are. For that reason I like seeing the SEC get better in basketball. This year it was 3-7 but a few games could have easily gone the other way. The SEC is getting there. As long as Auburn gets better faster then the rest of the SEC I want the SEC to get better. It is not just getting into the tourney it is where you play early games and what type teams you play against. If sometime in the next 3 years we starting winning in SEC I want that to get us as high in the polls as possible so that we get a better seed.
