The 1985 running game finished at #1 in yards per game, #8 in TD average and #2 at yards per carry.

Since 1967, Auburn is 103-4-1, when we rush for at least 150-yards, while holding our opponent under 100-yards rushing in the same game.

We sure could use Antone Smith to keep climbing the above chart. :big:

Am I missing something ? You say what the ratings are based on, but what exactly do those numbers on the left reflect ? So, a low number in rating the run game is good, in contrast to a QB rating, where the higher the number equates to a better QB ? I never have learned these ratings. :homer:

The number on the left is the average of all three rankings. I listed the 85 team as an example.

The 1985 running game finished at #1 in yards per game, #8 in TD average and #2 at yards per carry.

If you take the average of the above three rankings, you obtain the final ranking of 3.67, which was the best since 1967.

Sorry Raptor, I should have explained it in my initial post.

Not suprising that Dye has 5 of the top ten in rushing since AU was a true rushing team. It is preatty impressive that this year team is so high since they are not a run first offense.

And, the 1979 team is ranked 2nd on account of we had 2 guys in the same backfield: Joe Cribbs & James Brooks, both of whom gained over 1,000 yds that year in only an 11-game season. It was a given that one or both would break a long run (50+ yds) for a TD every game.

If you rate the rushing attacks based on average per carry and TD average, here is your top 20:

Year- AC- TD- Rnk

1986- 6- 2- 4.0

1969- 4- 4- 4.0

1970- 7- 3- 5.0

1985- 2- 8- 5.0

1979- 1- 10- 5.5

1994- 8- 5- 6.5

1983- 3- 15- 9.0

1988- 13- 6- 9.5

2002- 12- 9- 10.5

1993- 10- 12- 11.0

2003- 17- 7- 12.0

2004- 16- 11- 13.5

1984- 14- 13- 13.5

1982- 11- 22- 16.5

1974- 9- 25- 17.0

1971- 23- 14- 18.5

2000- 19- 18- 18.5

1978- 18- 21- 19.5
