Get off the kids' backs!!!

I realize that a lot of folks pay a lot closer attention to the recruiting wars than I do, but I wish some fans didn't take it so seriously.

CTT and his staff have publicly stated that they think everything is just hunky-dory with recruiting so why can't we just take it that. I realize he's not gonna come out and say "This is a weak class" or "I wish we could do better" but I'm pretty sure he knows way more about what's up then me or you.

I am getting sick and tired of seeing kids bashed for either not making up their mind quick enough or changing their minds about where they would like to pursue their future education endeavors.

I have a 19 year old son myself and he can't decide on what color shirt he wants to wear on any given night. I think any child who is making an important decision like where to spend the next four or five years of his life should definitely be cut some slack and not be trashed on an open public forum for making a decision that certain fans don't agree with.

If you want to trash kids at least be anonymous about who you're trashing. I think it is totally classless on anyone's part to call a child names or question their intelligence or maturity level because you don't agree with their choice of a college. February 2 can't get here soon enough for me. I'm losing respect for a lot of AU fans on this board. Don't get carried away. The sky is not falling. I swear.

I don't see how you can't take recruiting seriously, it's why teams win championships. Do you think USC and LSU won the National championship by mediocre recruiting classes? Recruiting is the most important aspect of establishing a good program. I don't care how good of a coach you are, if you don't have the players, you can't do squat.

As far as cussing the kids, I don't have a problem with kids taking their time to decide where they want to go. What I have a problem with is them pledging to one school and then reneging. If you aren't sure, don't make a commitment to a school. I understand that these kids are young, but at sometime they have to be held accountable. They are getting a free ride into college. Most people would be glad to have that, but some of these kids enjoy the attention and seem to take for granted their opportunities.

Agreed!! And, the reasons for decommitting are obsurd. I'll never curse a high school kid, but I will state the facts concerning this, or any recruiting situation.

"If you aren't sure, don't make a commitment to a school."....My thoughts exactly!!!!!

I could care less about our recruiting anymore.... It seems like we always recruit the "right" group of kids....and stars dont mean ****. I just like to leave it in tubs hands and see the progress....which is alot. I mean whether us as fans care or not about recruiting doesnt even affect the recruiting process at all....not in the least bit.

I do agree though, bashing these people is stupid...

Some of you get WAAAAAAAAAY too bent out of shape regarding the decisions of 17-18 year old young men...venting your spleen here is completely unproductive and some of you are borderline rude about it. Go punch a punching bag or scream in your pillow if you're pissed off, but don't show your tuckus on the forum.

I sort of agree with the second part of your statement BT. I think it would be better if we just had the signing day without the recruiting hype. Most of these kids are pressured terribly by the school they are visiting and probably commit just to be left alone. The more pressure they face the more commitments will be uncommitted. Plus I think the early declaration should be called an intention instead of a commitment. You don't sign the letter until February 2, why commit before then?

Could it be that there's not enough money made off these kids once they get to college. All the recruiting websites have to make their dollars before the kids get to school. The whole procedure should be scaled back some more. It seems to get more out of hand each year.

I agree completely with that statement and fully understand how much pressure these "kids" are under. If you're going to discuss recruiting you pretty much have to mention names. As long as the comments are clean I don't have a problem with it.

I fail to see a reference to any out of line comments. Considering the importance of recruiting and the fevor of our fans, it seems to me that quite a bit of restraint is being shown on this board. Maybe I've missed some quotes, but I cannot complain or state an opinion on what I have not seen.

That said, I do agree with the concept of not trashing the kids.

Recruiting is very important, however, if you look back on recruiting classes from 4-5 years ago, a significant portion of the big-name recruits never pan out. Any team needs a few elite athletes to attain success, but character, work ethic, and attitude mean at least as much as four stars.

If nothing else, Tuberville and his staff have proven the ability to get the most out of lesser players-- Courtney Taylor, Travis Williams, Dontarrious Thomas, Jeremy Ingle, to name a few.

You haven't seen them because we've been deleting or editing them. It hasn't been an epidemic. But we're trying to keep it from getting to that point.

I'm glad to see that Titan because I was about to say the same thing as Legal. I hadn't seen too much out of line stuff with regard to the kids.

NOW, trashing Ole Kiss is perfectly acceptable. Trash away my friends. :D

Is recruiting vital for the success of a program? Yep

Does that make it acceptable for fans/ those on the outside of the program to make ridiculous comments about 17-18 yr old kids, based solely where the kids plan to enroll in school ? Speaking for myself, I don't see that it does much good.

This discussion/argument is an annual ritual this time of year. It's the best proof that signing day is near. But the truth is no one is right or wrong. We will only know the answer 3-4 years form now as to how good anyone does in their 2005 recruiting class.

Good point PT! Come to think of it, we could just repost last years threads and save everyone all of this typin'! *grin*

You can go here however and check on the previous classes and see that many of the multi-star recruits are now familiar names:
