i realize that it is their right to change their practices whenever they want. it's their right to be money-grubbing jack@$$es that only focus on turning profit instead of providing information (which is what the site used to be about). but i've just about had it with "espn insider" articles. if you are going to charge me for every other article of the site, JUST MARK THE DAMN THING SO I DON'T WASTE TIME CLICKING ON IT! and why are the damn chats insider material now???? honestly, that's just low. with the other articles i can usually just turn on your radio station or your tv network to find out pretty much everything in it so you're making money off me regardless. the chats are net exclusive you dirty b*****ds. and my personal favorite was the fact that i could sit and read the chat live, i could even get the transcript while it was live, but once the thing is over, i can't go and get a chat wrap????? what the hell is that? give me a damn break and think about actually providing something for your loyal consumers without charging them even more for having bad timing.

Well, I came to this thread hoping for someone's opinions on ESPN.com, but got nothing... :D

Seriously, I had an insider account and found it ok. I gave it up cause I didn't read many of the articles online. And the "live scoring" stuff can be found for free on other websites.

Don't they mark the insider stuff with that orange icon with "in" on it?

One more thing, if you aren't paying anything, can you really call yourself a "consumer"? Wouldn't "loyal reader" or "loyal free content browser" be more appropriate? Personally, I don't pay for their insider stuff either, but I don't get all twisted out of shape when they won't let me in to see what Trev Alberts has to say.

How about this? We set up a government program to pay for people to browse the ESPN Insider content for free. The government pays for it all if you can prove that somehow it is your right to be able to do so. People with an income of over $100,000 a year need not apply. :poke:

I'm kinda sick of all the Insider crap too. They already bombard me on the top, bottom and sides of every page with more ads than I've ever seen in my life (and that doesn't count the occassional pop up that I now ignore with Safari). But so much of the material is becoming pay-per-view, it's getting to where going there just doesn't constitute a good use of my time. I'll just read other sites for info.

They are free to post content we have to pay for. And I am free to gripe about it and decrease my use of their site. Supply and demand. If more of us stop showing up, maybe they'll respond to the market.

Sorry to burst your bubble on ESPN.com, but it's really no big deal. I have a subscription to Sports Illustrated, which allows me to access articles on SI.com that others can't. It's just a benefit of membership. Just my two cents. :D

Man i posted about this a while back and its getting worse! NOOOOOW the Andy Katz daily word (bball page) and all the bball chats are Insider articles. They are taking all the things that drive people to their site and making them fee based.

If I want AP articles, I can get em somewhere else. That seems like the only thing you can get these days. it sucks major ass.

If everything is fee based, get rid of the 9 million articles.

i hate the insider articles too. i think the problem was that they would have the same articles for free online that they had in the magazine which people were paying for. i just don't they they need to have more insider articles than free articles like they do now. oh well, not a huge deal now but during the football season i get sort of mad.
