Everyone thought he would clean house being the first black HC in the SEC. It doesn't appear to have worked out that way.

i talked to folks in starkville today. they seem pretty pleased. keep in mind this is a team on par with vandy for the last 4 years. croom said they had to get better on both lines, and he signed 11 linemen (7 OL, 3 DT, 1 DE). that's a pretty good take if you can coach 'em up. plus the two "stars" of the class are on the lines (OL calvin wilson, DT louis ellis). they also got some athletes and linebackers that can bolster the defense. they already have some playmakers on offense (see 30+ points against florida last year) so the defense needed the attention. he didn't "clean house," but he did very well for a coach on probation coming off what 3 or 4 wins?

Thanks mcguf. If he improves on the field next year, and I suspect he will, it will be interesting to see if his recruiting jumps ahead as well.
